While not directly aimed at Crunchyroll I really do have to question what short circuit goes through the minds of some of these companies.

Really, if I was somewhere like in Croatia I MIGHT see some validity in the whole liscensing thing, but in Canada I can't view a series that's been liscensed for North America? This certainly isn't the first time I've seen it, but by god it's just getting downright stupid. -_-

I only hope that CR keeps enough track of views and revenue, so that companies do not receive money from an excluded subscribers subscription fee for content that they cannot watch.

If that is not the case, then studios will have less incentive to work towards simplifying worldwide licensing procedures.

Being Canadian myself i must agree with you. how on earth is Canada excluded from a North American liscence. i do hope this is resolved quickly as i quite enjoy all the Gundam series

Usually.
I have rarely seen that we have been excluded.
I guess we're just not considered being "North American"...
However that works...?

I hope they do change this too.
I was excited to see that Gundam 00 was coming to Crunchyroll.
Now I'm just disappointed.

I don't know if this is right... but on wikipedia it says that Bandai owns the license for North America, and there are both the USA and Canada flags next to it. So does it mean that its been licensed for Canada too? Or is it a mistake? Weird.... lets hope this goes the good way for us.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Gundam_00 look next to licensor for the tv series.

If I had to guess I would say a station in Canada has first broadcasting rights and wouldn't want episodes released online before they have been played on their station. Sometimes it is the company who purchased the rights who blocks online broadcasts but it looks like Bandai has rights for both U.S. and Canada.

Edit: This does seem weird considering this is a fee-based site. It isn't like crunchyroll is hulu (unless you don't have a membership).

i would have to say what some ppl have said is more then likely the reason its not available to us canadians. ie that maybe ytv or some channel here has decided to air it on tv for the new fall season or something. however i have seen gundam 00 for sale at best buys here in canada so worse case can always buy a few episodes.

IIRC, Broadcast rights are different from DVD rights. I might be wrong though.

I'm not defending nor excusing the companies decision, I'm just wanting to be informative & hopefully helpful.

Companies can be quite anal & persnickety about these types of things.
