in my family we do it.. in our culture girl shouldn't get a boyfriend and she will be badly pointed within her family and community.
the idea of arranged marriage is to protect these girls from "inproper" husbands through some kind of "investigation" if i can say.. by asking people who know him about his activity and social life and if he is accepted then the girl will aprove him or not to be her husband without forcing

Of course, arranged marriages are prone to failure. For catholics, arranged marriages can be bounds for the dissolution of a marriage... simply because the CONSENT is not there.

But I've known of some people who were put in arranged marriages and turned out just fine. I guess fate really deals a wild card on us sometimes...

I'm indian n in hindu culture, arranged marriage is a normal thing. It has changed a bit... Nowdayz, the two ppl arranged to marry are allowed to talk to each other n look into each others interest... but in some parts of India, a girl don't even get to see her husband till the wedding night. I'm totally against arranged marriage... ppl are humans not cattles... they should have a right to choose their life partner.

Also in arranged marriages... the parents of the girls n the boys side look into their past relationships n a girl will be look down on if she had a boyfriend before marriage. in other words... the families want a respectable family for their child to be associated with. My aunts n uncles were arranged to marry n they are married for over 30 plus years.

Yea, I'm Chinese, so in the past, my grandma had her marridge arranged. I think it's ok if you don't have someone you love yet, or else, it can be rather painful & fustrating.

As long as both still have a little choice and are fine with it then i don't see that big a problem.

I have always felt arranged marriages to be akin to a form of slave trade .

In most cases , the females parents are usually expected to build up a dowry that either the parents of the groom (or the groom himself) receives, as kind of a payment for the arrangement . The better the dowry , the more prominent the family married into , and the more social status the brides family receives . Seems to me like pimping out your daughter for street cred is just wrong.
