Do you think Crunchyroll should tell us the references and jokes during the show?

that`s right, but very less and just recently. it`s nice to know that they`re working on it though hope we can get karaoke text too~ as close as it can get to fansub quality. both are great in their own ways; imho fansubs win.

Er, that's legal issue. Currently CR doesn't have the rights to post the translated lyrics of the OP and ED's. It's silly, but apart of Japan's giant wad of red tape. :P

Really? I actually thought it because they didn't see it as necessary to enjoy the show.

I like it when they explain the jokes (..so I love fansubs).
Because... well what fun is it if the joke just goes by and you're completely like "wtf just happened? o.Ò".

Honestly, I miss Rumbel subs and those who subbed it in between. It's great that they partnered with Japan to get the most frequent releases now - with no real charge if you don't mind waiting a day or two for it to become free.

But for Gintama? It's a horrible move - I don't know about others but I laugh all the same when the references are there. Why? Because a lot of the references are even before I took interest in the japanese culture. Including the turtle story which seemed to me like a child's story - but it's not common here in America. Including the singers or when they give a name and at least tell you "This person is a tv announcer" otherwise your just seeing a picture and you won't laugh as much.

Meh, they do a great job, but if I had my say I'd want the subbers to keep subbing it. Or at least work together. I don't think Sunrise realizes what's common for English speakers and what's not. So you miss out on all those little side jokes. I get why most people would be angry with a reference - it's mostly fans who grasp the language a little better that feel slightly inferior by it being there. But come on, I don't think it's fair for others myself included.

On another picky note, I'm starting to realize that the references they do offer are pretty much the ones I could figure out myself. Especially the Jackie chan parody - The Fly. So on and so forth.

That's just my two cents though. xD I'll still watch it regardless who subs it, but I dunno, I like that fans did it for the fans.

I think it would be the best if all the references were in another file and that you get to choose to see them or not. I don't really like them.

I love Gintama, I laugh my ass off every episode, but the translator notes used in this show ARE very annoying. Two or three short notes per episode would be okay, but the method used here is just ridiculous.

For example, a few episodes have had parody themes, like a Dragonball episode or a Gundam episode. A reasonable translator note would be to print "This episode has a lot of Gundam jokes" in the beginning of the episode.

Instead, the subtitles are explaining that "A is Ramba Ral's subofficer in Mobile Suit Gundam" and "B is Ramba Ral's subofficer in Mobile Suit Gundam" and "C is Ramba Ral's subofficer in Mobile Suit Gundam" and so one, which is absolutely redundant. It's also way too long -- often the notes are longer than the subtitle that they're explaining!

The CR video system supports multiple subtitle tracks, right? Maybe having a separate track without translator notes would be the most fair solution.
