However, you can pay for Anime Member star in order to gain more access to other feature such as having profile banner & Wallpaper, being able to watch Anime before the show date, or creating new forum topic without 500 CR points. 2. What are CR points? It is just something that shows how much you have involved in CR activities. Every time you post a reply in the forum, a comment in a video or guestbook, upload pictures to your profile, upload videos / Crunchyland designs (and they have to be approved), or have an Anime Member longer than a month, you'll receive points in return. However, the thing that you must not do to earn these points is spamming. If the Moderators found that you are spamming just to get a CR point, you will be punished. Besides, CR points are pointless once you have over 500 points. 3. What are the differences between CR Staff and CR Moderator? Crunchyroll Staff are people who currently keep the site running by repairing, fixed, and testing certain features. They can sometimes be called "Crunchy Sous Chef" or a CR Full-time worker. Moderators are experienced users who patrol the site in order to maintain peace and order. 4. How many Moderators are there? The amount can be checked if you go to the staff page. They approve videos & Crunchyland Design, keep the chats sane, report glitches, handle forum arguments, and take out spmabots. In short, they're the ones that make sure your stay in CR will be an enjoyable one. 5. What are items? Items are special "trophies" that you can display on your profile. You receive items for every site sponsored video you donate to and download. Depending on how much you donate, you can get moving (animated) items, as well. There's no limit to how many items you can have, even of the same kind, so collect as you see fit! 6. What are pages? Pages are personal, customizable spaces that link from your profile. It uses the same format as the forums, and you can use this to expand your profile. Some people also use it as a blog. 7. What are groups? Groups are little communities in CR where members of similar interests can get together and mingle. All groups have standard features for communication, such as a chat window, a private forum, a photo sharing section, and other useful features. The good thing is you are the person who control it. You can moderate it in any way you want. 8. How do I add buddies? Visit a user's profile and click the Buddy Me! link found just below their avatar. A message will ask you to confirm your buddy request. You won't see the person in your buddy list until that person accepts your buddy request. 9. How do I search for other CR members? Type in the name of a CR member you'd like to find in the data field, click the drop down window next to it and select "user", and then click search to look for the user. 10. Can I delete my account? Yes you can. Please use this feature wisely, as deleted accounts cannot be recovered. Before deleting your account, you'll be asked to give a valid reason as to why you're going to delete your account. You can delete your account by going to the nuke page. 11. I can't log into my account. What should I do? You need to check whether each information was given correctly or not. Check also to see if the CAPS LOCK on your keyboard is on. If you forgot your password or username, click the forgot password or forgot username links found at the bottom of the log in window and follow the instructions. 12. What's a BB code? BB code stands for "bulletin board" code, and is the markup language used on the site. BB code can be slightly different than HTML code, so keep in mind that HTML codes won't work in majority of the text fields of the site. For more info on how to use BB codes on the site, go here 13. Why do some users have a star beside their name? These users are Anime Members / Premium Member. These people have donated their money to the site. If you're interested in becoming an Anime Member, use this. 14. What are the 'rate up' and 'rate down' buttons for? These buttons are used to report spammers or inappropriate posts found in the site. As more users report the post, it will be forwarded to the moderators, while the post, itself, will be "hidden". 15. Can I invite other people to Crunchyroll? Of course! Send them an invite by this. 16. I hate the user name I choose. Can I change it? No, changing your username requires quite a lot of complicated database alternating. The best way is delete your current account, and sign in again with the new username that you want. 17. Can I be a mod? No. If we ever need one, we will have an application open for you to apply, but for now, please enjoy the site. 18. Besides Imeem, can I have a music player from other website? Yes, if you are an Anime Member, you can embed a player from playlist.com 19. I kept getting 30 seconds song on my Imeem player. What's going on? Currently, there are licensed issues going on in Imeem, and that cause all embedded imeem players to play songs only 30 seconds. 20. I've completed the picky bank assignment. Why don't I get any CR Bucks? If you believe you have completed the assignment, you can send a PM with the "View Offer" function in the CR Bucks page. *Note: We have absolutely no control in this. The people who give you the Bucks are the assignment owner. Forum Questions 1. What are the rules, and where can I find them? The forum rules can be found here. 2. There are lots of terms used in the forums that I don't understand. What do they mean? You could either ask in the thread itself for clarification, or use google to look up the term that you do not understand. 3. How do I start a new thread? On the top-right of the Forum, there is a function called New Forum Topic First, you will see a Topic Category, this is where the post will appear, such as General, Anime, Drama, ect. Next, you will see a Topic Title, This is where you name your thread, and please don't give weird name such as "dfs;jlksadf", "haha", or "Yo Dude". These kinds are not suitable for a thread title, and it also reflects your level of maturity. You will see Topic Description under the title box. This is usually not needed, but adding description to give more understanding to other user is not a bad idea after all. Under that, there is a big box. That is for the body of your thread. Here is where you will give as much info about your thread as possible for the discussion that your thread is about, but please make sure it is understandable. No "tYpiNg LikE tHiS" or have the whole content full of caps. When all done hit the "Post New Topic" button and you are all done. All that is left is some good happy replies from other users. 4. What is a duplicate? A duplicate thread is a copy of a currently active thread that is already being discussed. A duplicate thread will be closed with a link provided to the thread that the discussion can continue in. 5. What is a VS thread, and why is it not allowed? A versus thread is a thread that puts one thing against another such as "Bleach or Naruto, which one is better?". They are not allowed because we have a poll section which is generally a better way to show which option do people love more. Also versus threads tend to lead to spamming since all you need to do is post the side that you like more. 6. How do I make a poll? In the upper right hand corner of the screen, there is a icon that says "New Poll " 7. I made a thread, but it got locked. What happened? The most common reason would be it broke the forum rules in some way. Read the forum rules before posting to make sure this does not happen. The other way a thread gets locked is if there are too much spamming and flaming, and the thread has gone too far off-topic, but generally we mods tend to use Multi-Delete, which can clear out all off-topic discussion. 8. How do I place images in forum posts? There are two ways to do this, the first is if you have a link to an image, click the image icon, the 1st icon from the right at the top of the post. Put the location of the image in the box that pops up an then click OK. The other way is if the image is on your computer you can click browse button under the Image Upload above the post, search for the image on your computer. When you find it click the image file, then click open. The image will then upload, and you will be provided with an image code for your post. 9. What is a permalink? Permanent is a link to a particular post. A permalink is a URL that points to a specific posting. Instead of going through the page in which the posting original occurred, you can go straight to the post by using the permalink URL. 10. Someone is breaking the forum rules. How do I report their behavior? On the bottom of every post there is a link that allows you to report to mods. It looks like the one circled in orange 11. How do I search for topics in the forums? At the top right of the forums there is a text box, type what you are looking for in the box, then go to the Forum section and scroll down the menu to find the thread you want. However, you can also use Advance Search to check for duplicated Locked thread 12. I can't find a thread I made. How do I search for it? You can identify which threads are sticky by the funny-looking octopus icon next to the thread name. 14. I posted a topic in the wrong section of the forums. How do I move it? You can report your thread to a mod to be moved. All you have to do is use the same link as question 10 at the bottom to report to mods so they can move it to the correct section. 15. Why won't a Forum Moderator lock that topic? It can happen that you didn't report it to the mod or the mod that works on your report doesn't think the thread deserves to be locked. It can also occur that your report is hard for mods to understand ie when you tYpE liKE tHiS. 16. Can I advertise other sites in the forums? No. There is to be no advertising of any site, this includes other post you have made, or groups. 17. Why aren't personal threads allowed? When the question was answered, there will not be a reason for that thread to exist. A good Forum topic will last forever. There are sticky help threads in almost every sub-forum. 18. Why can't I post a picture thread? Picture threads can lead to a chat thread which is not the purpose of the Forum. The Forum is for discussion. If you want to chat, go to the chat room. Besides, with more pictures in the thread, it will cause the loading for a thread to be slow. 19. Who lock my thread? Usually a mod will leave a note before they lock it, but if the reason isn't stated in the last post, you can post in the Chat With Mods thread POLITELY. Groups Questions 1. Under the group avatar, there is a function called “Leave the group” 7. How do I delete a group? You need to PM a moderator in order for him/her to delete your group 8. My group got blocked. What happened? A block means it has been mark as inappropriate. 9. I'm trying to leave a group, but it won't let me. Why not? You cannot leave Blocked groups. Well try to make a group that doesn’t violent the CR rules. 11. How are CR points counted in a group? Just like the original CR point Group Forum = Forum Post, Wall post = GB post, etc 12. How can we put our real creators name on the group creator? Do you know the thing called "permission"? You need to have the mod of your group change the group to closed group. After that, have the mod edit the permission thing and make the new user who joins this group a creator. Before you do that, you need to remove the user who is the unknown creator. 13. Can I edit our group media? You can only remove or add video to your group. Only the Media Mods can edit those CR videos. 14. What is group permission? It is something you use to decide what kind of ability a group mod can have and will they be viewable in the group moderator section. Video Streaming Questions 1. The video player isn't appearing on the screen, and a message is telling me to update my flash player or turn my java script on. What's wrong? You need to go to the Adobe Flash Player Website and get an update version. Also, as it says, fix any java problems occurring. This will resolve your issue. Sometime you might have to clean your browser caches 2. A video is labeled incorrectly. How do I fix it? Scroll to the bottom of your Crunchyroll screen and click on the “Staff” icon. Find someone listed under the Media Moderators section and PM them about possibly correcting the mistake. 3. What's with the "Connection Closed" or "Steam is not ready"? CR Video player requires a strong solid Internet Connection in order to play. If your Internet Connection is not strong enough, your pc will fail to connect itself to the player. 4. Why are some videos that are available on other streaming sites not available on Crunchyroll? The sites that show these videos are violating copyright infringement laws. They will be sued soon or later. Crunchyroll, on the other hand, has a lot of publisher to post their videos in a better quality. CR no longer has any worry about being licensed or sued like other website 5. Can we download videos from the site? Yep, you can use the Recorded & Download function from RealPlayer 11, you can use the download tool in FireFox, or you can use the Activity tool and get the video code for Safari users, but the best thing is pay for it because these publishers need to make a living. 6. Can I make video streaming faster? Your connection speed determines how fast video streaming is. 7. The player loads, but a message tells me that the video can't be found. What's wrong? Make sure you have the newest version of Adobe Flash Player and then try refreshing the page. If this still does not resolve the issue, try logging in with a different browser. 8. Why doesn't the full screen function work on my computer? Try reinstalling or updating your flash player or try other browser. 9. The video keeps on getting cut midway. What's wrong? There are a few reasons why this may happen. Your internet connection may have a problem or may be disconnected. One of the servers may be down. You may need to watch the video in another quality setting. There may also be a Java script error. 10. Why do I get something like this "Sorry, due to licensing limitations, this is unavailable in your region."? There are some concerning about license law in U.S. Some countries can download a certain videos without a problem. If that happens, the company cannot sell their products. However, Shinji is currently working on that. It should be available someday in the future. 11. Why can't I post any comment for a video? Probably because the video you are watching is blocked in your country. Comments and feedback are given when you have viewed the content. It is pointless to give comments / feedback on something that you haven't seen. 12. How to Rate a show? Right now you can rate any show. If you really like the show, you can add it to your favorite collection. 13. How do I favorite a video? Click on the video you want to add. Directly under the video player there is an icon that says “Favorite It!”. To favorite an entire series/movie, go to the main page of the movie or series where the description and cast is listed. AVI, MPG, MOV, OGM, MKV, or FLV...basically anything, but mostly it depends whether the encoder can encode it or not. 3. Can I upload American Video? No, this is an Asian site, so no American video, which means no WWE or TNA please 4. Why is the uploading stop? If your Internet speed is slow, then it is possible that your uploads got cut off. 5. I have some great episodes on DVD. How do I upload them here? You can't. The publisher will do the job for you. They have an even greater episodes. 6. Where should I put AMV? Sorry to say that AMV isn't allowed any more. It contains clips from the publisher's videos, and they won't be happy to see that. 7. Why can't I upload Cutscenes? Same reason with the AMV, but not all Cutscenes are allowed especially those cinematics, only dialogues are permitted, but walkthroughs are OK! 8. Why was the video I uploaded rejected? There are many reasons why your video wasn't approved. You should PM one of the Media Moderators in order to have your question answered. 9. Where is my video in my profile? It isn't in your profile anymore. It is now located in your Upload Manager. 10. How large can the video be uploaded? You can upload up to 700mb, so there shouldn't be a reason to spam upload like Youtube...billion of parts. 11. Why is the uploading so slow? It depends. If your Internet speed is slow then it isn't strange that your uploading is slow, but sometime the video server is down, and that can cause slowness in uploading. 12. I uploaded that video first! Why was mine rejected? This is not a somewhat first-come-first-serve thing. It's all about quality. It also occurs that encoder encode video at random, so your video might be encoded second. 13. Why doesn't my video have a thumbnail? Sometime the encoder cannot generate a thumbnail for your video. You can upload your own before the moderator approves it. 14. Why was my video removed? There are times when Media Moderators approved videos by mistake, so they have to take it off. 15. I get an error message when I try to upload. What's happening? Make sure you have flash and Java enabled. If you still get an error check your connection. 16. What is Awaiting Encoding? The file is posted in your Upload Manager after you click upload. What it means is either your video is in the middle of uploading or your video is waiting to encode by the encoder. 17. How long does it take to have my video approved? Depends on how active Moderators are. If they are not active, then you will have to wait for a period of time. Chat Questions What are the Rules of the Chat, and Where Do I Find Them? The chat rules are an agreement on how you will act in the chat. There are currently 13 rules in the CrunchyRoll chats. A quick summary is, ** Spoiler Alert!!! click to hide or show**
♥ Keep the dialogue clean and devoid of graphic sexual/violent depiction. ♥ Use only the English language in the main rooms. [No Japanese, Tagalog, German, ect.] ♥ Do not type in all capslock unless for brief humor [example of proper use: “Seriously, it was THAT bad"] ♥ Avoid disrupting other people's conversation and keep on topic with the room. ♥ No provoking, discrimination, slurs, insults that can be ill-interpreted, and violent cussing. ♥ Use legible typing; Refrain from using 1337, text-speak, or ghetto-talk. [example of rule breaking: Anything Not in the Dictionary!] ♥ Do not drag out words, punctuation emotcons. [example: “I'm so booooorreeeeddddd......:( ]♥ Do not post multiple lines of quick and short messages. [example “well” “I had” “a good” “day”] ♥ Do not ask for or give personal contact information in public. This is for your own safety. So no email, AIM/MSN, no myspace or phone numbers. ♥ Do not advertise Crunchyroll groups, buddy invites, products, and Myspace pages. Except for products, do this through Whispers/Private messages and only with people you trust. ♥ No Roleplaying. Take it to a private room. [type “/join roleplay” to create a private room named roleplay] ♥ use the /me command sparingly. You can find a complete listing of the rules here, here. Before using the chats, you are expected to have read the rules. Ignorance is not an excuse in any case. Failure to follow the rules will result in warnings, kicks, and bans. Generally in that order if the offense is repeated, but the mod decides at his/her own discretion. What is Spamming? Spamming can be defined as any action that breaks the rules. However, you can say that spamming is to post something repeatively which can be annoying to other people who use the chat. Typing like this "asldfjhnld" is also considered as spamming or something like this: I love you How Do I View a list of Chat Commands? Type "/help" without the quotes into the chat. That will print out a list of commands. What is an Operator / Moderator? (Operator = Moderator) Operator are site staff. Their job is to enforce the rules and help users with their site-related problems. They can kick, ban, or delete user accounts as they see fit. They are also knowledgeable people who can answer site questions. Anyone who is on the staff page with an Account Status saying "Chat Moderator" is an Operator. They also have this “@” before their screen names while in the chat. Here is an example: Note: Not all Chat Moderators are active all the time. If you see a problem in the chat, and you want to report it to a mod, you can seek out an active Forum/Media Moderator because they usually have a Chat ability. What are official Chat Rooms? The official chat rooms are Crunchyroll [or main] - Anime - games - music - drama - fansubs - uploaders - mods - random. All rules apply in these rooms, so don't be surprised if a mod comes in and kick you out for violating the Chat Rules. Can I I Make My Own Chat Room, and How Do I Invite People to it? Yes, you can make your own chat room. This is useful because Operators do not intervene in these rooms (great for roleplays and speaking foreign languages with friends). There are two ways to make your own room. One is to type “/join namehere” without the quotes and with the name of your room in place of namehere. The second method is click the 'channel' button just after the post button. Type in the name of your chat and you'll be taken there automatically. Your friends can log in to your room the same way two ways. Just remember that they have to mirror the spelling exactly. I Got Kicked out of a Room. Why? There are two reasons that Operators kick users out of the room. The first and most common reason a person is kicked out of a room is because the person broke the rules. This may or may not be accompanied by a warning. While Moderators are usually kind enough to warn you first. You are expected to have read the rules. Whining and complaining like a 4-year old kid is not a way to behave. If you wish to contest a ruling with a mod, please read the rules yourself, and then PM the mod with a non-threatening letter asking for justification. The second reason is that Operators will sometimes kick idle users out of a crowded room in order to prevent lagging problems. Do not feel bad about it because you might hit the jackpot and leave your keyboard when a mod starts an idle testing. If I Get Banned in one room, Can I still Chat in Other Rooms? Yes and no. In most cases, the banning Operator will just ban the offender from that room. However, multiple offenses WILL get a user banned from all rooms for up to a year, and even a site-wide ban. How the situation is handled is up to the Operator. You will be notified by the chat screen who banned you, but the best thing is try not to get banned. If I Get Banned, How Long am I Banned For? The general working number is 3 days. This will vary depending on your offense and the Operator. Operators will not automatically unban you. If you want to be unbanned, please Private Message them about it after three days. ALSO! DO NOT go behind an Operator's back and contact another mod! They will not unban you sooner, and you could be banned even longer for dishonesty. Only contact another moderator if all other attempts to reach the mod who banned you fail. (or if you do not know who banned you - another moderator will be able to figure out who banned you) The Chat Window Doesn't Want to Load on My Screen. What's Wrong? Most likely, you are encountering a flash or cache problem. First, Clear your web browser's cache first (this is done in Firefox 3 by selecting the tools menu and clicking on “clear private data”). Next, check and make sure you the latest version of Flash Player installed. Flash home page: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ If issues persist, please contact a Moderator. It is also a good idea to make sure that if you are using ad or flash blocking software such as AdBlocker and NoFlash, to make sure that the chat window is not blocked. I Can't Type anything in the Chat Box When it Loads. What Should I Do? Sometimes there is an error in the chats where the text is automatically highlighted, causing the text to be deleted as it is typed. To get rid of it, either click on the field again, or restart your browser. If neither of these work, try the checks in question Can I send Private Messages to Someone in a Chat so That No One Else Can Read it? Yes, it's called Whispering, and it's done by typing “/w recipientusername”. Left clicking (or right clicking for left-handed users) on a user's name will automatically put up a '/w username' in the chat field, but you can type it in yourself. Whispering works across rooms, and no one can read it. Can I Make a Buddy List on the Chat? Yes! This list is separate from your profile's buddy list, and has a lot of good uses. To create it you have to be willing to use some chat commands. To add a buddy, type “/f a username” Without the quotes and your buddy's name in the place of username. ( Ifyou and your friend are both on each other's list, it'll tell you when the other has logged on/off. It should be noted that only about 15 people are allowed on a user's list last time I checked) To Remove a buddy, type “/f r username” Without the quotes and the buddy's name to be removed in the place of username. To see who is one your list, type “/f list”. This will also show which room your friend is in. To message everyone on your list at the same time, type “/f m” followed by a space and your message. Why are Some Messages in the Chat Red? This is an Operator executing a shout or system broadcast. Shouts are how Operators give out warnings, so please pay attention. Shouts and system broadcasts are visible by everyone in the room. Once again - PLEASE pay attention, the Operator will not be held accountable if you are not listening, but sometime they just want to have fun like this: Can I Prevent People From Whispering to Me on the Chat? Yes. There are two ways to do this. The first method is to squelch the person who is annoying you. Type “/squelch username” without the quotes and the offender's name in place of username. Another method is to enter “/dnd” to engage Do Not Disturb mode. This will block ALL whispers. To disengage it, type “/dnd off” Note: If the person is solictiting for some improper or advertising, you might want to report it to an Operator. Crunchyland Questions 1.
