~ As we know, many countries are more eminent and formidable than other countries. But how wide do you think those countries' influence can reach? Have you ever thought of those countries controlling a less formidable country? Do you know any happenings or events that is somehow connected to this?

~ If you didn't get what I just said, simply it means, that are other countries so powerful to actually control another country and even put that country on a tip of a knife?

(Only Examples, no harm intended)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EVENT:
~ Some of you might not know, but Ferdinand Marcos is the 10th president of the Philippines, he was also known as the corrupt and evil president, who was almost becoming a dictator in Philippines. He even cheated in the elections to make him stay as the dominative power, but it is said that Philippines' people power stopped Marcos. But do you think an immense mass of revolting people can actually keep a guy like him from doing what he wanted? He also (as most people think) assassinated a promising candidate for presidency.
~ There was a book written about Marcos, and it is stated in that book, that Ronald Reagan (a former president of the United States) called Marcos, and said two words, "Give in.".
~ That word changed everything, that word was the one who stopped Marcos, and maybe also the people's power. (this is only my opinion, a mere hypothesis)
~ The point now is, does this event, show that the United States is sensitive or concerned? Or does this mean that the United States is a very superior country that can actually command or push a less prominent country into submission?
The Fall of Marcos:
~ Is the influence of the United States good? or bad? ~
(Again, this event is only an example.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~ This is also opinion based, so dont get too hyper. Next is, this is not a Filipino Discussion, this is a discussion of a more dominant country that you know of, and you can discuss of. I also searched for some kind of thread that can be connected to this, but I was dissatisfied with the results.

Im not saying if it can control every country, Im asking about your opinion about how a powerful country's influence affect other countries... This is what you get for people not reading the whole thing, if your too lazy to read, please dont reply. This is not a discussion for people who arent so enthusiastic.

Well, I think this can go like humans, the US being the "popular" person and the other countries being the other students. The US, being as powerful as they are, if they were to do something, I think another country, "Influenced" by their power and also assuming that everyone else would do it, would do the same. Then the other countries would also do the same, I mean, in a school its kind of like that. Like the schools most popular and powerful person, US not necessarily the worlds most "popular" but yes, powerful. Yes, I do think it is possible for the US to control a whole other country. Not a big one like Canada or Russia but a small one.
Note: This is strictly a comparison

PS I'm really not good with politics so excuse me if I typed up anything stupid.

well....too lazy to read all of the thread... but I think the U.S. should stop trying to be the "World Police"

if other countries need help let them ask for help. If the U.S. truly believes that the citizens of the country are in serious troulbe then deploy soldiers to that country.

I think the U.S was and korea for about 20 years, and this "War in Iraq" shows no sign of stopping even though the canidates now running for President say so. they're just saying that so they can get peoples votes.

America has been good to certain countries, but probably the ones they are doing good trades with. I think the U.S. tries to have a good influence on the other world powers and soon to be world powers so they don't make any formidable opponents

correct me if I'm wrong though.....

Whee. I thought it was gonna be a topic about people. Haha.

I believe that even the most powerful country out there wouldnt be able to control other countries.

Well, if you think about it. Its better that some countries are more powerful than the others. If every country was just as powerful, then every country would be fighting each other to claim that most powerful seat.

~ Is the influence of the United States good? or bad? ~

I think the influence of the US is good for the most part. We represent a "revolutionary" society with liberal views and a "government run by the people". Our standards of living and even fashion have inspired many other countries, and our generally pleasant attitudes and hospitality. Of course we'll always have problems, but what country doesn't?

We are a society that at least makes an attempt to branch out and try to make a difference in this world, even if it's not our "turf". Even though we are not a dictatorship, we are still considered one of the most powerful countries.. so what does that say?

Marcos was a power-hungry tyrant, and honestly nobody wanted him in power. If Reagan was influential enough to stop him, then I think he did a good thing for the country's welfare. I don't feel by any means it was barbaric, or intrusive.

The US continuosly helps out countries who are less fortunate then we are, even though it probably doesn't have any benefit for us other than a sense of pride. We could probably have had the oppurtunity to take over many countries, but we decide not to.
