if i am giving a drama 16-30 hours of my life the people better not be plain, even if they are supposed to be-- at least one good looking actor is absolutely necessary, plus newbi'sdeserve a chance especially if they are hotties.

I agree...

I have nothing against people who are not hot but I did notice that amost all actors have some

fans who go ga-ga over their looks. I think that beauty is actually in the eyes of the beholder.

Some people find actors or actresses plain while others find them attractive.

Well. I mean, it's not THAT important.. But there was this one time, and it was really my first time, I was watching this movie.. It's about this girl who meets a boy, but she's some sort of cyborg and a super weapon.. Anyways.. I couldn't even look at the guy starring.. Don't know why -_-.. His looks just annoyed the crap out of me and he's ugly :x

Hahaha...yeah I saw that movie...I think it was called Cyborg She or something like that. I really liked that movie and truth be told, I don't remember tha guy's face at all but I do remember the girl's. She looked pretty.

it's a japanese movie right? the cyborg girl there is haruka ayase. and you're right she's pretty. and the guy there is keisuke koide. he is in gokusen2 and in nodame cantabile. in nodame cantabile he's a gay who has a crush on chiaki.

I think most actors/actresses have to be in some way or form be beautiful for a talent agency to pick them up, expecting them to get leading roles. It's like that all over the world basically you never really see an ugly actor unless the story line calls for one for a main role. But I never really saw an Asian drama that didn't have cute/beautiful actors. Not because I saw an episode and saw that the leading roles were ugly. But it just so magically happens that the storyline is good enough to watch and the cast ends up being really cute. But not all story lines are good, even if they have beautiful actors, like this one drama called Proposal Daisakusenit with yamapi, I quit after like the second or third part of the first episode drama because it was so, so, so much very boring. I only watched it because I saw him first in Nobuta wo Produce and he was very good in it and the storyline was cute. But come to think of it he's not really all that.

I think that looks do play a big part to even attract ppl to watch it.

next comes teh plot, then teh acting..I have dramas that I absolutely adore and deserved really high rating, but when I advise my (guy) friends to watch it...they are immediately turned off and won't finish episode one if the girl isn't "pretty" enough....

imo, it is very important cuz i only watch a drama if i like the actors in it..

I like eye candy, but for me it's not the most important aspect in a drama. I choose a drama based on the storyline and choose whether or not to stick with it based on how well the actors perform/act.

that maybe right but i think you are talking about the korean movie 'i'm a cyborg but that's okay' the main character is a girl who believes she is a cyborg/super weapon-- the boy in that movie is Rain(비) --

i really have to say, as good looking as he/she may look, if they can't act or do what they're suppose to do, they've accomplished nothing. i mean, they just become so annoying because their acting is just so horrible. sigh.

but of course, a hottie/cutie/etc... is VERY IMPORTANT TOO. lol.

Oh, so there's a Korean version of this one also? Or is the Korean one the original?

But wait, in the Japanese one, the girl was really a cyborg.

I actually saw the Japanese one and I found it touching....I dunno why.

Very important. If not, why would there be a a bunch of girls fangirling over them and boost up the ratings. Without looks, you think the majority of Johnny's would survive? Or if the whole HYD frenzy would still be so popular? Why do you think there's this whole 'korean wave?' Sure story played some parts but mainly the eye candy. The whole Yon-sama craze that's still with the japanese housewives. His acting is only second to his looks. There's many more I can list but bottom line, visuals are the main reason.
