Singapore? Screw the PAP! Tax is confirm going to increase after the general election (If PAP wins). Singapore is definitely not a place I'm going to carry on living if it's under PAP once again. One thing I'm sure about is that, if PAP wins, a large number of Singaporeans will migrate. This means that PAP is screwed for causing citizens to leave homeland. PAP had been pampering foreigners too much and they're not attracting foreign talents, they're actually trying to increase the population.

CPF? What shit is that? Only allow citizens to withdraw certain amount of money at certain age. What if a person passes away before being able to withdraw money? All the money still goes to the government then it all goes to the foreigners. Waste our hard earned money only. Also, the government asked us to donate money and helped the poor. If we help them, who's going to help us? The government will never help us at all. Furthermore, what's the point of NS men? They helped to buy time from enemy when war so the citizens can run away. Not all NS men will fight for the country. As long as citizens are safely evacuated, the NS men will run away and let the remaining NS men to fend for the country.

Anyway, Singaporeans are ranked below Bangladesh people. So, we citizens of Singapore not even pampered once by the government though they often said "we prioritized singapore citizens more than anyone"

This is the worst country that I'll ever want to live in. No doubt that the government had done a good job but it's just a show on the stage

I've been to Singapore last July 2009 for a vacation.. we stayed there for a week, we tried our best to visit all the beautiful spots but unfortunately we we're not able to do so.. All i can say is, singapore is a beautiful and clean.. Convenient way of living and rules are implemented well..(unlike here in our country, people disobey specially traffic rules )..
and one thing i won't forget is the Iced KaChang we ate at Sentosa Park..

I'm Singaporean and have been living in the US for the past 3 years.
And I have to say, when I was living in Singapore, I completely adored the US and thought that everything was better than SG

After these past 3 years in the US, I realized that I wa sbeing stupid. America has quite a few faults and I was very blessed to have been born and to have been able to grow up in a safe and rich country like Singapore.

I don't hate the US, but there are times when I really wish I can go back to SG. Basically, I'm proud of my home country. Even though I may probably live here in the US for the rest of my life(family reasons), I don't think I will ever give up Singaporean citizenship.

Singapore is the 5th richest country in the world.
Its army is the strongest in South-east Asia.
Its government is clean, corruption free.
Its people are protected by the government.
Everyone is able to get education.
There are no cases of people starved to death in Singapore.
Our health care is the 6th in the world.
Tax is necessary for progress of the nation, so Singaporeans should not complain.
We have to use foreigners because of decline in birth rate, but soon in future there will be more citizens.
Singapore's current ruling party, the PAP is the best. Look at Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong, Lee Hsien Loong etc.
Singapore has so much good things that will take me all day to talk about.
Ignorant, empty-headed people who complains about our government and country should perish.
I believe that the PAP leaders and our government are blessings from God. Look at us and other countries.

I am a Singaporean and i am proud of my country. That's why I am joining the Army to do something for my country.

Aren't you 17? Not exactly taxpaying age yet. I'm not sure why you are getting so worked up about paying taxes. Have you seen the taxes that European, particularly Scandinavian or North/West, European countries pay?

Another inaccuracy is your claim about CPF. The remainder of your CPF goes to your family according to this chart, assuming that you are non-Muslims. http://ask-us.cpf.gov.sg/Home/Hybrid/themes/CPF/Uploads/Nomination/NOM_Table_A.pdfMuslims have a different breakdown. And I have yet to see the huge migration you predicted. CPF is the local version of Social security, it's not entirely foolproof, and hardly perfect, but its intentions are to provide Singaporeans with a pension of sorts after they are retired, hence the controlled withdrawals. The government is essentially afraid that many will not save sufficiently for their old age and thus be unable to support themselves in the future.

And as for your comments on NSmen, I would suggest you actually learn more about NS and those in service before making unfounded comments. Yes, not all NSmen will fight, that is a certainty, however, NSmen are not meant to buy time for citizens to run away. In case you haven't realized, there isn't exactly very much to run away with or to. Where do you expect the evacuation to go? Malaysia? Indonesia? The purpose of NSmen is to act as a deterrent and if necessary, a fighting force.

Of the last 6 years or so, I've spent at least 4 years overseas, living and working in Thailand and the U.S. I've only very recently returned back to Singapore and haven't quite adapted to the heat yet. As one of the earlier posters mentioned, the U.S is nice and all, but it's not where I would want to spend the rest of my life. Now, Montreal on the other hand, is definitely worth consideration.

Singapore isn't perfect, and neither is the ruling party, not by far, but what it has done, is provided Singaporeans with a standard of living beyond that of almost all cities in Asia, and comparable or better to most large cities in Europe and the United States.

This article from the National Geographic is actually fairly accurate and unbiased, especially since most depictions of Singapore in Western media tends to be praise for accomplishments while beating Singapore on the head about human rights and liberties. Personally, I think certain human rights and liberties can be somewhat overrated.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to pick on you.

1) We are not the 5th richest country in the world, not by far. We do have one of the highest GDP per capita, but that is not exactly accurate, it varies depending on the surveying body. It is not entirely accurate as an indicator of wealth.
2) A little hard to quantify.
3) Clean, and low corruption, not NO corruption.
4) Fair enough. Some would argue coddled.
5) Not entirely true, and I'm speaking from the perspective of an educator here.
6) Wrong. People do starve to death, just not on the scale you see on the news or television. Poverty still exists.
7) 6th? Which study are you quoting here? Statistics lie.
8) Fair enough. Taxes are necessary.
9) Also true, but there should be balance.
10) As a whole, Singapore owes LKY a huge debt.

not my home country , i am actually from the US , but lived in there for about a year and in JB for about 2 years so was going to Singapore a lot still. Everyone pretty much summed it up, it's a very clean and safe place but i noticed so many rules that just did not have to be there. Like the gum chewing and smoking laws bothered me the most but maybe thats just because i smoke and chew gum haha.
Another thing is it was sooo damn hot and humid every single day , and i really mean every single day 365 a year . That i could not handle , i was born in the US and i like to see the seasons change. But the food was amazing and so was the shopping . All in all a very very nice place to visit but i dont think i would want to settle there because property prices are very high unless you are satisfied with a flat your whole life. But most of all the majority of the people there made me feel welcomed and were opened to other countries. I did notice that they did not like malays much though haha. And in the 3 years i stayed there i picked up a very bad habit of saying lah, leoh, and things of that nature at the ends of my sentences.

Hmm what i noticed most of the Singaporeans complain about is the heat...ha i find this ironic we are still living a good life and a little heat is fine don't you think so..compared to those living in places like Africa we are really lucky..yeah $$wise Singapore is not the best place to live in yet i believe that there are not much countries in the world that hold a variety of multi cultures and don't have multi ethnic conflicts....
