Why the hell do they count it as part of the main series? Still don't get why they did the same for FFXI.

It is official!

Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO, and a sequel to FFXI at that.

A teaser site has been released today:

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com

The HD trailer is there as well as some still shots and art work.

It is scheduled to release 2010, my guess is it will be in Fall or Holiday season since FFXIII will release in Spring.

Things of interest:
-This MMO will not be in Vanadiel, but in a new world as shown in the trailer.
-All of the FFXI Races are back and there seems to be a couple of new ones. (based on the game logo, artwork, trailer, and stills)
-----Possible Male Mithra!

Here are some pictures to get your nerd-juice flowing! :D

Here we see a Galka fighting off some jellyfish monsters.

Here we clearly see a Mithra casting an AoE spell, the tail and cat ears are very obvious.

In this artwork we can see a female Mithra sitting on the left, a male Elvaan in the center, and what looks like a Gria (from Tacts A2) in the center sporting horns and pointed ears.

Here is another Mithra in the right chatting it up, and what looks like a 2nd new race in the center. At first I was thinkign it was an Elvaan but the ears are very odd, almost bat-like.

From left to right we see a DRK-like Galka, a Hume, a cut lil Taru (nerdgasm!), a Hume WHM, and finally a very butch Mithra that sure looks like a male to me.

Anyways check out the site for yourself! And yes, it will be PS3 & PC.
*Tomorrow G4TV will be covering FFXIII in E3 so I will be watching in case some juicy teasers are dropped on FFXIV!*

The specific words used will, were 'it will launch on the ps3', Sounds like a timed exclusive.

I hope it's a lot better than FF11, which obviously, is like 8 years old and pretty damn dated now.

Only problem is, if it's due out next year, it's going to have The Old Republic and APB to compete with for players.

At the time of the trailer they did say it was PS3 only, however later that day it was confirmed that it will be for PC too.
Heck, the official game site that I posted says is going to PC & PS3.

I'm sure SE has learned a ton from the many years of FFXI, I personally did not find too much wrong with the game so I am expecting a very good MMO out of this new game.
The only downsides I experienced in FFXI were the battle speed and experience gain.
The speed is pretty awful, many people gave up the game after a month or two of playing because it is only at high lvs that one has a good amount of abilities that really making killing so much faster. I really hope SE does not try to make this new MMO feel turn-based with super slow weapons again.
The exp was a pain, when u put together slow fights and tiny exp you have some very depressed players. The worst part of this grinding is the fact that aside from a couple of classes it is simply impossible to go without a full and well-made party, as the levels get higher it gets harder and harder to find parties. Sure the Lv sync system has addressed this issue but it is far from a solution, all of the essential party members are just as hard to come by since a lv15 party can recruit a lv60 tank.

Square Enix held a press coference today at E3 to answer some questions about FFXIV, no other topic was discussed.
SE did not allow any cameras in and did not play any videos, so the only source we get are the bloggers that were asking away.

Here is a reliable source with what went down at the conference.

http://e3.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696020/Live-Blog-Square-Enix-E3-2009-Press-Conference.html

A nice bit to note: "Another very important concept that takes a different direction from FFXI, for FFXIV we want to make it so the player can choose to play solo, in a party, 40 minutes, all-day... there will be content for ALL of those play styles and systems for all of those play styles."

Also the pricing and fees have not been discussed, it could be free to play, micro payments, or the good old monthly fee, no one knows so don't believe the rumors!

Yep, Square confirms PC and PS3 at launch, considering other consoles/hardware also though.
Of course it doesn't mean it's 100%, but if they want more money (and I'm sure they do) then it will make it's way to the xbox, because a PC to Xbox port is just so damn easy peasy.

I'm still iffy about Squares ability to make a decent MMO though.
FFOnline is really old, the new one, hopefully a lot better. But who knows, they may still choose to keep the aspects of it to appeal to their older fans, which would be a bad decision IMO. They only have a 200,000 subscriber base, which is incredibly low. They choose to delete your character's if you don't keep paying consecutively. etc. Honestly, I bought the game , played it for like 2 days then deleted it, was so very, very bad, I never intend to try it again.

If this MMO is out Q4 next year... Good luck competiting with APB (Grand Theft Auto MMO) and The Old Republic (The star wars mmo by bioware).
