Death Note fucking sucks. If they picked that instead of Shugo Chara, I wouldn't have tried.

shugo chara sucks too.. yet u still tried.. i tried not knowing that there were gonna be limited winners.. after i found out.. i gave up.. after so many long hours watching something so pointless.. i would've prefered CR add Bleach to their library and use that instead.. even if there are limited winners i'd still be keen on revisiting old episodes.. and i bet im not the only one

You know, as an advertising stunt, I'd say this contest has failed. If the point was to get people excited about Shugo Chara... well, that has obviously had mixed results. If it was to stir up interest in crunchyroll upgraded memberships, then it has definitely backfired. Too many people spent too much time for too little reward. The contest was arbitrary, and frustrating for most of the recipients. It definitely seems that the "Dia" badge is deliberately designed to be difficult to get, something that was not mentioned. We could have just had the contest be "get the Dia badge" rather than tantalizing the contestants with 12 out of the 13 badges. Failure is depressing enough, without giving them false hope and then crushing it. All in all, this was a blunder on Crunchyroll's part.

lol you complain about watching something long and pointless, then suggest -bleach- of all things as an alternative? lol!! and i'm a bleach fan, too, but let's face it... it's the DBZ storyline all over again, with better polish. "the new enemy was stronger, so we had to power up just in time to deafeat him, making us more powerful, right before the new enemy showed up, who was stronger than us..." except no (LITERALLY!!!) week long power up moves.

the whole point of it is to make it look fun, and look like you hae a chance, so that people get interested and keep playing. but there are ALWAYS only limited winners.

i'm willing to bet that this was not a backfire for them in the least.
1; drumming up SC viewers: done, done and way more than done. even people who blatantly announce hating the show were still watching it.

2; interest in the memberships: backfired? you;ve got to be kidding me. if people weren't interested, this contest would have been a dud. and with all the complaining you saw in the forums, how many more people didnt even post in the forums. now.. of all those people saying "wow these are so hard to get"... do you think -nobody- said to themselves "i've been doing this all night. i make more than 8 bucks an hour. i'm just gonna buy the month and enjoy the series at my own pace" (or go watch something they like better)

3: arbitrary and frustrating to most: you're kidding right? do you complain to mcdonalds about their monopoly contests? because it's exactly the same thing. right down to having tons and tons of common pieces, and a select few winning pieces.

All in all, if you think this was a blunder.. don't go into marketing or promotion as a career.
