Well not me, I try it, if I like it I play it, especially if it is addicting. xD I don't choose it based on graphics, but I will criticize it.

This is what I judge games on, in order of importance:
1. Gameplay
2. Interactivity
3. Content development rate (how often the game is changed)
4. Graphics

Of course, I'm mostly talking about MMOs here since I generally never play single player games.

I wouldn't say so. IMO, it depends on how fun the game is.
Like, when I first played Super Mario 64, the graphics were sorta bad, but it was really fun to play.

Graphics help but gameplay is much bigger factor to make a game successful. An example, Starcraft.

It's a sad fact but most gamers these days won't touch a game unless it has sparkly- shiny 3D graphics, at least the ones I see are like that. I'm an JRPG nut, so I was playing Mana Khemia when some people came over. I heard so many 'that sucks' that I gave them a lecture (never say that any game in the Atelier series sucks within my hearing range). Poor fanboys, they were talking about FF12 (all sparkle and good characters, gameplay that reminded me of a combo of WOW and the .hack series a.k.a not fun for me).
Graphics don't matter to me though, it's all about gameplay and storyline ( I still play FF6). Most new gamers want eye candy.

Well graphics makes the sell, not the story. So graphics are making video games a lot better. but that does not mean that they are actually good games. For example, Chronotrigger, perfect game. The graphics were good but not perfect. Graphics sell and story makes a game immortal. FFVII, awesome graphics, awesome story, awesome game play= one of the greatest games ever created.

so graphics make games better

While graphics can be a nice touch I don't think that they are the most important thing, if anything the only thing less important to me is sound (I love game music, but in terms of what a game needs I think it's a pretty low priority).

When people go nuts over graphics and dismiss anything older I always want to challenge them: how are these games any more fun than some of those games released for the 2600, Colecovision, or Intellivision? I love new games too, but my NES and Colecovision are still hooked up along side my PS3, 360 and Wii, and in some cases they see more use as well.
