i think graphics play tricks on your mind. if something looks nice, it makes you want to get it because other people will see that you have and also think its nice, but maybe i'm just over thinking things Image

Not always, if the graphics are good but the storyline is terrible then there's no point in playing unless the storyline is good and the graphics are so-so then play it.

you have a point, but people buy things to boost their self-esteem, at least according to my understanding of psychology. Sometimes the game's other content has no effect on a buyer's choice is what i'm trying to say.

i'm having trouble quoting others, so pardon my lack of directness

No,a good game must have good gameplay, storyline, essence and good characters (Persona series = not good graphics, but the game itself is AWESOME). Image

What source did you get that supposed fact from? (The one stating that people buy things to boost their self-esteem) Sorry I want to read about it... it intrigues me :P

topic- i hate how people say graphics are only part of games... i care about the plot and if it's actually fun to play or not. who would want to play something that would bore you in less than 5 minutes >_>

well its not so much where i got the fact as supposed to me piecing it together from what i know. I think people all try to do things that make them accepted and look good in front of others. I also know that the better you look, the more credible you become in the eyes of others. So i was thinking, maybe the best graphics make other people think you have good taste in what you get? again, this might just be thinking too much , but i'm pretty sure the stuff about self esteem is mentioned in Freudian study if your interested. Look closely at the id and ego and super ego.

This all my opinion, so don't quote me word for word on this.
Hope this helps Image

Dude I STUDY Freud and it just sounds like you're just trying to blow stuff out your ass while clinging on to the human need for acceptance and making it sound top notch and complicated. Sorry if I'm just popping in the the conversation but you mentioned psychology so I had to get a word in

Some people are simpleminded, they can be intrigued by pretty colors and shapes for hours.

Well sorry genius, like i said, its my opinion. and if that's complicated to you, then i'm sorry, but try studying a little harder.

And, like i also said, don't quote me word for word. gotta love people who just see one thing in a post and ignore everything else.

Sigh... another one who can't read, gotta love those people. I said you were trying to MAKE it sound complicated not that it was. Why don't you try studying so you can state facts and not presumptuous opinions. I didn't quote you on it, no where did I say that you thought what you said was true. There's a difference between an opinion, an educated opinion, and a fluffed one. Yours, sounds fluffy, just as you have stated since you're unsure of it.

No, I wasn't actually. I was just stating that though you said you were unsure about your opinion that it sounded fluffed.

okay, because i haven't answered the question...

Graphics enhance the experience, but aren't necessary to make a good game. Key example, Chrono Trigger DS. Awesome game, even if the sprites were just done in better quality and some new things were added in.
