Today it seems to me that one word has become synonymous with hyper-conservatism among the average political student. Bush; George Bush has become the face of extreme right wing politics in the eyes of the international audience. Ironically, conservatives themselves feel that George actually conformed on his conservative ideals in order to rebuild his shattered image amongst the liberals. Here are just a few examples.

The republican political party supports a minute government. After all, the government has done such a great job with our money so far, we can’t WAIT to give them more. A bloated bureaucracy is slow to react to emergencies, as was seen during Florida’s Hurricane crises when Walmart actually acted more effective than the federal government. George Bush, on the other hand, tripled the size of the federal government.

Republicans feel it is necessary to re-direct funding for environmental preservation to stabilizing the economy. The state of our market system is a more immediate issue, and while it’s okay to take care of the environment, there’s no reason to address the problems of tomorrow when the problems of today have yet to be resolved. George Bush did more to cut back on green house gas emissions than the Clinton Administration and the European Union combined. He also funded the largest marine life reserve in the world, along with two others of impressive girth.

George Bush signed a bill similar to those enacted during the Clinton administration that allowed the federal government to tap of phone lines and listen to our conversations as well as investigate our private computer files, and generally invade our personal space. He did not take it as far as Clinton, who brought civil in-home surveillance to its highest level in American history, but he came frighteningly close. In both of their defenses Bush was faced with a war and Clinton was faced with a wave of violence. Remember, the WTC was bombed before 9/11 during the Clinton administration. This was also during the time of the supposed school shooting pandemic, and it was under the Clinton administration that Oklahoma city was bombed by terrorists. (It’s really strange to me, but apparently the only people who seem to remember this are Texans and Oklahomans. Everyone else has apparently moved on. I’m always frightened to see how few people realize that Oklahoma was actually stuck by a car bombing.)

Those are only three quick examples. Bush repeatedly compromised the conservative values he supposedly held. Bush’s liberalism actually reached so far that a spokesman for the Obama campaign actually claimed that Obama, in action, was more conservative than Bush. In ideology Bush was more conservative, but when it came to their actually voting records and the content of Bush’s bill, it was Obama-according to the spokesperson-who was more liberal.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Bush conformed to the democratic will, that he was simply trying his best to be bipartisan, or what?

Yeah, doesn't seem too active. But then, this entire forum isn't very active and I'm not too popular because I don't buy into conspiracy theories and I'm kind of a short-fused douche-bomb.

Bush claimed to be conservative and many people see him that way, but many of his actions were liberal. Discuss.

I wish I could discuss it, but I don't know anything about his presidency other than the fact that a lot of people disliked him without knowing why.
