The Fallen

Chapter 1: Tenshi (Angel)

“Who do you think you are?!” the bully questioned angrily at me. He was forced on the ground by my right leg. I flinched with anger and grinned, my eyes twitched, making me look scary.
“I think I’m Hikari Oshiro,” I told him, glaring straight at the bully.
“Well, you have no right to put your foot on me!” the bully yelled at me, pissing me off some more. I pressed him to the ground harder with my foot.
“You were the one who was bullying this innocent student in the first place!” I said, pointing at the little girl who was on the ground, scared with tears in her eyes. He took a look at her and glared at her angrily like he was blaming her for being forced on the ground. I had enough of this jerk. I let my foot off of his back and he turned around to face me. Still angry, I took the front of his shirt and lift him off the ground, gripping tight on his shirt that I must’ve choked him. I glared at him and got ready to punch him with my left fist, thinking of giving him a good jab on the face.
When I was about the punch the bully, the little girl screamed, “Stop!”
I turned my attention to the little girl in a quick second after she said that. My glare turned into pity, seeing the little girl terrified and crying a lot. I was disappointed, I was thirsty for some punching but I guess not, if it’s the right thing to do. I let go of the scared wimp, letting him drop on the ground. He was about to cry, but then ran away, frightened. I saw him run off then I paid attention to the crying little girl. Her eyes were closed; it must be that she doesn’t want to see my terrifying face. I walked slowly towards her, every step I was taking made her tremble more and more. When I took the final step, she stopped trembling, maybe because she didn’t hear any more steps. I kneeled down and gave her a hug. The girl suddenly opened her eyes in shock. She didn’t say anything but I felt her grip onto my shirt. I’m a monster to have a girl cry and see what a terrible thing I was gonna do… I let go of her and we stared at each other for a while, eye to eye.
“He’s gone,” I said calmly. “The bully’s gone…”
The girl looked around to see if I was lying, that made me giggle. She stared at me laughing and soon joined in.
“Suzune Ibaraki,” the girl told me in a quiet voice.
“Huh?” I asked, needing her to repeat what she said because I couldn’t hear her at all.
“Suzune Ibaraki, that’s my name. Call me whatever you want,” Suzune said louder than she did last time.
“I’ll call you Suzu-chan then,” I smiled and Suzune stared at me with open eyes, in shock.
“Tenshi…” Suzune said in a quiet voice again.
“What?” I asked her, clueless.
“I said tenshi which means angel…” Suzune said with a smile of a little girl. She continued, “…Because you have the smile of an angel.”
I blushed, she embarrassed me. No one has ever told me that before in the 16 years I’ve lived.
A smile like an angel… That thought made me smile again as the wind blew through my long white hair. My purple eyes stared at Suzune.
“Thank you,” I thanked her as the green grass we sat on whistled as the wind blew on it and us.
“Your welcome,” Suzune replied, her voice so soft like a pure child. But wait, she is not “like” a pure child, she is one.
“My name is…” I said without finishing my introduction.
“Hikari Oshiro…” Suzune finished it for me. “I’ve heard about you, you’re the new student everybody’s talking about, aren’t you?” I looked at her, but not that surprised. I do hear a lot of people talk about me when I walk past them.
“Yup, I’m Hikari Oshiro,” I told her with a normal face. “Call me whatever you want.”
Suzune smiled at that idea and stated, “Since you’re shortening my name to Suzu-chan, then I’ll shorten your name and call you Hika-chan.” That idea was brilliant; I wouldn’t even come up with that.
“Okay,” I said, agreeing to her response. We were quiet for a moment and Suzune got impatient and killed the silence.
“Hika-chan,” Suzune finally said and I looked up at her.
“Yes?” I asked her and her smile disappeared.
She hesitated to say what she wanted to say for a moment but she slapped herself into saying it. I looked at her with wide eyes when she actually slapped herself.
“Do you live by yourself?” she asked, looking at me with one eye and the other closed because of the pain on her cheek. I just continued looking at her, speechless. I was about to say something but she interrupted me with, “I’m sorry, it’s a stupid question!” She bowed her head down with her eyes closed. I giggled and she looked up at me quickly with wide eyes. She blushed with embarrassment.
“It’s not a stupid question,” I told her after I finished laughing. “And yeah, I live by myself.” Suzune’s embarrassment turned into sadness.
“Why is that?” she asked as her long brown hair floated around behind her as the wind blew on us. Her big brown eyes stared at me, waiting for my response.
Is she eager to know about my life? I asked myself as her impatience grew.
“Because I have no family,” I finally answered her question. Her sad expression didn’t change at all.
“Do you know why?” she demanded for more information about me which I found weird. What is she up to? I answered her question anyways.
“Nope,” I replied. “And what’s weird is that I have no recorded information about my past and I don’t know how I was born.” Suzune looked down at the ground, her bangs covering her eyes for a while.
“I know why,” she said, still looking at the ground. My eyes widened, I was stunned by her response. I wanted to say something but nothing came out of my mouth. She stood up, still looking down, and walked around me and stopped right behind me. She took my hair and tied it gently with a hair tie. She put her left hand on my left shoulder and her right hand on the back of my neck. Her smooth fingers tickled my neck. “This mark on the back of your neck…”
How did she know about that mark on the back of my neck?! I thought with my eyes still wide in shock. I sat on the grass quietly. I felt her fingers tremble and the back of my neck felt wet. Are those tears? Suzune let her hands of off me. I turned around to see her face and her eyes were wide with tears coming down. It wasn’t a little bit of tears, it was a lot.
“Hikari-sama? Is that you Hikari-sama?” she asked in a weak voice but there was joy in it. I didn’t answer her; I just looked at her in confusion. No one has ever added a “sama” to my name. I don’t really know about my life, but how am I special to Suzune? The bell rang; I forgot that we were in school.
I got to get to class… I thought to myself and got up from the ground. I looked at Suzune and walked away slowly.
“Wait, Hikari-sama!” she shouted after me. I turned around to look at her.
“Meet me back here after school,” I told her and I continued walking, leaving her alone there. She smiled and got to class too. That was the weirdest lunch I ever had.

Chapter 2: The Truth

I wonder why Suzune called me Hikari-sama… I thought to myself and sighed. I was in class right now. I stared out the window as I thought hard. I was lucky enough to get a seat all the way in the back right next to an open window. The sun shined down on me, I blocked the brightness with my left hand, trying to avoid eye contact with the sun. The nice breeze blew on me, giving me chills. Maybe it was a little windy but not that windy that it could make me freezing cold. I heard birds chirp from a far distance, my hearing ability was stupendous. I could hear sensei perfectly. She was scolding a student for falling asleep during class. I giggled quietly to myself so no one would stare at me. I looked down at my right hand which had Suzune’s hair tie. I forgot to return this to her before I left…I’ll just return it after school when we meet again… I sighed quietly, exhausted. The reason why I always leave my hair down is because I don’t want anyone seeing my mark on the back of my neck. Even if I did tie my hair and my hair blocked it from anyone seeing it, I still wouldn’t like it.
“I’m weird,” I whispered to myself quietly and looked to my right, turning my head to the same direction. I thought I heard someone whispering my name. But it was just Kazuki Kato. “Yes?” I asked, whispering.
“Can you not talk to yourself? Even if you whisper, I can still hear you,” he told me arrogantly; he was easily annoyed by hearing me talk. I nodded in agreement but I was still pissed. When I turned, facing the front of the class, my right eye twitched angrily.
Who does he think he is? What a stuck-up, red head of a snob. I thought to myself while Kazuki laughed to himself. He looked at my angry expression and smirked without me noticing it.
“What a strange girl…all I asked is for her to be quiet,” Kazuki said and his smirk turned into a smile when he saw my eye twitch. I still held onto Suzune’s hair tie in my right hand. My twitching stopped and I looked at my closed fist with the hair tie in it and sighed, thinking back to Suzune and my conversation. I squeezed it hard and felt its stretchy texture rub on my skin. Still smiling, Kazuki looked at my tightened fist. He grew curious of what was in my right hand and I spotted him staring at it.
Looking from the corners of my eyes and not turning my whole body to face him, I stared at his peculiar and interested face. His red hair looked like it was dyed because it’s rare to see red heads in this school. What were weird were his gray eyes. It was so tempting that I uncontrollably kept staring straight at it. He caught me staring at him and I blushed. I froze there; I couldn’t turn my eyes away from his. Couldn’t or won’t? That’s my question right now. Our gaze locked and it continued to make me blush even more, making me feel dizzy.
Visions appeared out of no where. I heard screams, saw a huge crowd, and a girl appeared who looked like me but with red eyes and younger than me. We were standing on a huge cross, high off the ground. I was on my knees on the surface of the white cross. She had tears in her eyes and a person next to her gave her a sword to hold. She walked up to me and I looked up at her.
Tears still in her eyes, she said, “I’m sorry, nee-sama…” And she pierced my heart with the sword she held and my eyes grew in shock. I looked down at the sword that was still in my heart. A lot of blood fell from that area and I heard the little girl sob loudly and screaming from below. I tried to stand and the girl looked at me with lots of tears coming down her eyes. I was on my feet but I couldn’t balance correctly. The sword was dangling from my heart and I took it out, crying in pain. I dropped the sword and fell off the huge cross. “Nee-sama!!!” the little girl screamed after me, reaching her hands out toward me while she was on her knees.
I reached out to her and whispered, “I forgive you…” and was about to reach the ground but a bell interrupted my vision. That was no ordinary bell; it was my school’s bell. I snapped back to reality and got up from my seat. I noticed Kazuki still staring at me. I took my school bag and walked away, leaving him frozen in his seat.
That boy annoys me… I thought to myself and remembered when we were staring at each other for a long time. I blushed and not paying attention to where I was walking, I bumped into somebody.
“Ouch!” the person said and it sounded like Suzune. I looked down at the person who was on the ground and it was Suzune! She was the only one that fell while I stood up. I almost fell but I found my center of balance. Suzune was on her knees, rubbing her butt. “Poor butt…” I smiled a little but then it disappeared in an instant when I remembered about the visions I had during class.
“Suzu-chan…” I called for her, making her look up at me in surprise.
“Hikari-sama…” she replied with wide eyes when she noticed that it was me that she bumped into. She got up from the ground and wiped the dirt off her clothes. She then looked back at me, seeing me walk away. I turned around, signaling her to follow. She did as I told her and followed behind me. But she followed at a distance, knowing I would get irritated if people saw the new student walking with a girl who looks like she’s in the 6th grade. I stopped at where we met which is at the back of the school where it’s quiet and good for private chats. I turned around, facing toward Suzune who looked straight at my alluring purple eyes that no one has.
“Talk,” I ordered her as I sat down on the grass, waiting for her to say something. She hesitated; maybe I was putting too much pressure on her. Still holding onto her hair tie, I sighed and tied my hair. I turned around to show her the mark on my neck. I looked at her while pointing at the mark and said, “This mark…Tell me about it.” She didn’t hesitate this time but there was a pause before she began talking.
“Fallen angels have that mark on the back of their necks…” she finally said. My hair was still tied and I still sat down on the green grass. The sun beamed on us, giving us warmth.
“Fallen angels?” I asked as I continued to listen.
“Fallen angels are those who committed a crime in Heaven and/or the Angel Society and were sentenced to death,” she replied to my question. “And fallen angels are given a chance to live as a human but they just appear in the human world at the age they died, never starting from when they were born…Just like you…They have no parents, they don’t remember their past, they have no recorded info about themselves except their name and age, and they don’t remember anything about Heaven and the Angel Society…” I tried not to give a shocked face, so I bit my tongue so I could keep a straight face. But what she told me was unbelievable.
“How am I connected to that stuff?” I asked her keenly, wanting more information of what she’s talking about. Suzune continued to stare deep into my eyes and for once, she took these things seriously. She looked down at the grass and picked at it.
“Because you’re a fallen angel yourself,” she answered, sitting down as well. “Except that all fallen angels have a black cross mark on the back of their neck but yours is half black and half white…” I looked at her, surprised this time but when she looked up at me, I went back to a straight face.
“What does that mean?” I asked for more as my interest increased.
“That means you’re a pure angel, the rarest of all angels…” Suzune said, forcing a smile at me so she won’t let me see her sad expression. “And the half white of the cross on the back of your neck indicates that you are the Hikari-sama who was killed just 2 months ago…”
“Me? A pure an-” I didn’t finish what I said because Suzune interrupted and caught my attention. She did that by turning her head real quick, reacting to something. I could hear what she was reacting to.
“Suzune-san, you have to go back to the Angel Society, you have tasks and meetings to attend to.” I heard something said that and it was her cell phone reminding her about things. Suzune sighed; it looked like she wanted to tell me more. I was disappointed as well and I watched Suzune get up. I rose from the ground too and looked at my surroundings, nothing but trees, bushes, grass, and the back of the school. I stared back a Suzune and she stared back at me.
“Sorry, Hikari-sama…I have to go now…” Suzune told me and out of no where, she all of a sudden grew wings from her back. She elevated off the ground and waved good-bye. She slowly flew away.
“Ah, wait!!” I yelled after her before she left and she turned to look at me. I untied my hair and threw the hair tie at her. She successfully caught it and waved good-bye again. I waved back and saw her off. She went through a portal and she was gone like that. I sighed and got my bag that was lying on the grass.
I forgot to ask her about the visions I had…its okay…I’ll just ask her later… I thought to myself and walked home with a smile on my face. I couldn’t wait for the next day to come and happen.

Chapter 3: The Dream

I opened my eyes slowly and I found myself lying on the cold ground. But wait, the ground wasn’t the normal floor in my house. I sat up and looked around. The place was cold even though there was no breeze, there was nothing but darkness. I got off from the ground and walked around. I roamed, but why? Was I looking for a reason why I’m here, in this dreadful, dark place? I stopped to think.
This is stupid; if this is a dream then I’ll just try to wake myself up… I pinched my cheeks as hard as I can. I kept pinching them until they turned red. I rubbed them and I looked around again.
“Where am I?” I asked myself and a luminous light shined in front of me. It was too bright that I had to block the light away from my eyes with my hand. I squinted for a better vision. I saw a glowing figure that was floating in the air. It landed gently on the ground, standing straight up.
Is it a human? No, I think it’s not... I thought and wings ascended from its back. My eyes widened in shock, what is it?
“You’re in a dream,” it finally said, with a girl voice.
It must be a girl then, what a beautiful voice she has… I stared at her vividly, waiting for something to happen.
“I know that,” I told her, staring straight at her eyes. “But why am I dreaming about this?”
She paused for a moment. Her angelic wings outshined the darkness that surrounded us. I didn’t bother about the freaky darkness, what bothered me was her appearance. She looked much like a human but I felt that she wasn’t which is easy because of her white wings. Her silverfish, blondish hair fit her white with gold dress.
“I was sent here…” She said in a proper manner, staring back at me with her ocean blue eyes so seriously.
“You’re not answering my question,” I said, pissed off.
She came closer to me and told me, “Patience,”
“You’re telling me to be patient?!” I laughed, getting impatient. “That’s ridiculous!”
The girl smiled slyly. My laughter stopped, why was she smiling? That made me grin, what a dream this is.
“You’ve become different,” she said, disappointed. “But I will help you.”
What the heck is she talking about?! What a weird woman! I thought and I calmed down a little. Hmmm…Maybe I should be patient, anyways, what is she up to?
“What do you mean by that?” I asked her in a polite voice. “Are you here to tell me something…Like let’s say…About angels?”
The girl’s eyes widened and she continued to smile. She giggled like a little girl and said, “You learn fast…”
“I do,” I bragged like a proud mom. “Who sent you here?”
“God did,” the angel said in a voice that made me suspicious.
“I think I can understand why,” I told her honestly which surprised her.
“And why is that?” she asked in a soft tone. She waited patiently for my response. I looked down at the ground. The angel tilted her head at an angle to see my face. I smiled when I looked at her confused expression.
She’s like a little kid… I thought which made me giggle quietly.
“I’ve always had dreams of angels…” I said with a sad smile. “I don’t have any parents and I don’t even know how I was born…” The angel’s expression turned into pity.
I’m pathetic; I can’t believe I’m telling her about this… I thought to myself with a tear in my eye.
“There is no recorded data of my past and I’m not related to anyone…” I continued telling her, showing my weakness. “I’m lonely…” I cried quietly and the angel gave me a hug. Her soft body calmed down my tears that fell from my eyes.
“You’re not alone,” she told me, which was a good way to comfort me.
“I know that,” I said which made her let go of me and look into my eyes with curiosity. “That’s because I met Suzu-chan…” I smiled and the angel had an upset look.
“That Suzu-chan…” she said to herself and looked away. “She told you, huh?”
“Yeah…” I replied, looking down at the ground. I looked up at her, this time seriously. I continued, “She told me that I’m…that I’m a fallen angel who’s wandering around for nothing but hope…And this is the mark of it.” I showed her by pulling up my hair and letting her see the half black and half white cross on the back of my neck.
“Yeah…” the angel said, sadly. “But did she tell you that-”
“That I’m the rarest angel?” I finished her question. She put on a pitiful face again and looked away, not wanting to see my sad face.
“I see…” the angel said. She smiled, maybe she thought of something. “Then I’ll help you,”
“Help me?” I asked in an astonished voice.
How can she help me? I thought to myself, her response was so straightforward.
“Yeah, since God sent me to help you…” She answered my question. “But…”
“But what?” I asked, eager for more. I needed to hear what she had to say. She turned her head to see my expression. She smiled at my eager face.
“But I’m going to need approval by the Council of Angels and the Court of Justice,” she told me which sounded risky and dangerous.
“I’m up for it,” I encouraged her, making a fist full of courage. She smiled and took out a…cell phone? She dialed a number and put the cell phone to her ear.
“Hello, is this Tadashi? Oh, good. This is Arisa. Is the council free? Then can you arrange a meeting? Thank you very much!” Arisa hanged up and put her cell phone away. She smiled at me and said, “A meeting is being arranged in two days, so I need you to rest.”
“Okay,” I replied, happily. “Thank you, Arisa…” I looked at her gratefully and she blushed.
“It’s no problem, Hikari Oshiro,” she said and elevated off the ground and flew above me slowly.
“How do you know my name?!” I asked her loudly as she flew farther away.
“Because I’ve always admired you before you became a fallen angel, Ms. Oshiro!” she answered back in a loud voice that made me able to hear her response. She flew through a shining light that must’ve been a portal. The portal was circular and bright. I watched her fly through it and disappear.
Always admired me, huh? I asked myself, I couldn’t wait. I smiled and the darkness that surrounded me turned into brightness and that brightness turned into hope for a future.
I closed my eyes, still smiling, and faded away. I opened my eyes and sat up from my bed.
“What a dream…” I said and smiled with a giggle.
