I often recognize statements including the phrase "common sense" as not stating much of importance. The phrase is ambiguous after all, and it may be a mistake to try to find much in it. Personally, I would favor a strict deconstruction of the phrase when using it, so common sense is simply showing sense (judgment) that is common among people.

Well, to continue the topic, here is a question which I think may show differing viewpoints. Which of these two positions would be the common sense one:
1) the earth goes around the sun, or 2) the sun goes around the earth? And why?

because of day and night? lol i dont really get it. could you please explain it to me?

When standing on the earth it seems like the sun goes around the earth because we see the sun rising and setting, and we have no real awareness of the earth moving. However, this is not the case.

Thus in the caveman era it was surely common sense to believe that this bright ball in the sky went around the earth. But, It is not common sense now because most (say, high school educated) people understand that the earth in fact goes around the sun, and they don't learn this judgment though sense (perception), but though general education.

Just because something is common sense, that does not say anything about its truth.

depends..ppl think it's common sense when they know it, but other ppl might not...i think a lot of ppl judge common sense of what they hold to be common sense, not the standard..

On this site, obviously there is a major lack of common sense.

Intelligence is not equatable with common sense. Common sense is like applied intelligence. You can get a 99 on your SAT, but you could also have a 99% chance of running your car into a street lamp for mistaking your gas pedal for the break.

Some people are really like that. No practical knowledge whatsoever...

I think I love you will you have my babies?

I just realized how silly that statement was. I said "break" instead of "brake"... stupid me.

Common sense are the things that have a common or simple logic in it, why me, I can pass the test by using common sense without reviewing and can get to the top of the class, when they ask me, it's just pure common sense, just like applying things you learned in the way past and put some complicated logic in it and actually, you can use common sense sometimes with your intelligence, I usually do that. And observing the problem, you have to use your common sense first, because you cannot solve it, even if you have intelligence cause you wouldn't know which is which without your common sense... common sense is a basic knowledge inside you

Well, they probably wouldn't be the smartest person who ever lived then, now would they? If you figure that the smartest person that ever lived would probably have the greatest capacity for learning, then to not have learned something as simple and fundamental as common sense would negate the fact that they are the smartest. That is assuming you can learn common sense, which some people may argue isn't possible.
