Post Reply What keeps us from witnessing to certain friends?
Posted 12/26/07
I have friends that I'm witnessing to, but I also have friends that I haven't witnessed to. What keeps us from witnessing to those friends we haven't witnessed to? Do we think of them as more hopeless because they appear more sinful than other friends, or because they are very skeptical? Is it because we fear that they won't want to be our friends anymore if we mention God? Look at what we're doing to these friends. It's as if they have a disease that will one day kill them, and we're holding back the cure. Why do we do this?! Why are we more afraid of man, than afraid of what will happen to man?

I believe that there is a time for everything. It says in the Bible under Ecclesiastes that there is a time for everything. Perhaps we hold back the cure, because we in our own human flesh cannot change anything, unless He tells us to. It's His Will, and if you believe that He will save your friends then just pray for them.

If you believe in that, then don't worry. For it is not by our own strengths to change things, but that God works through us to change people. He will give you the green light when the time is right, for God works in an orderly manner. He has already it all planned out, so if we love him, don't spoil his plans! Let him instruct you when is a good time to do what, and it will work out for the best it can be!

You see, sometimes God saves people in his own ways. It may not even require us believers to do anything. That's the beauty of God. He has his resources! Even if he doesn't use friends, he'll use strangers. Even if he doesn't use people, he'll use circumstances! Even if he doesn't change circumstances, he'll send angels! Even if there's nothing that he uses, he'll come himself! What we need to do, is to lay back and see him work. For there is nothing but graceful and beautiful things when he does things :)

If you worry, then pray about it. Our part is not to let our hearts be troubled nor fearful, and God will take care of the rest. Isn't he great?!

Oh how I want to worship him so, when he shows me such great things!

You're right. It hurts me to see how many unsaved friends I have, but I know that God knows exactly how I feel. He has His own timing, and sometimes I want to rush it, but I know that God's timing is best. Thank you, for that post was another one of those times when I didn't think I was doing enough. No matter how hard I try, I can't change anyone's heart, because God is the only one who can change their hearts, I'm just used as a tool. I know He will take care of everything.

I'm praying constantly for all my friends, I'm leaning on God. It's so amazing that we can lean on God, and not have to worry at all! For God has everything under control.

Well, I try to witness to my friend and my cousin but somehow we end up getting in a heated debate and everyone starts to lose it. So I finally came to the conclusion if they are in trouble all I could say to them is pray.

I think a main reason for us witnessing to some ppl but not others is that we probally fear (either consciously or unconsciously) that they wont like us or our relationship will change in a negitive way... I have also had some heated debates with my friends (some are hindo, and aithis) but i also can see that they respect me still for the way i live my life i feel the best way to witness is to witness by example the rest follows

I have always been praying for some of my friends who don't believe in God but I never seem to get the courage to witness to them. I guess I was never much of a good convincer in the first place.

^ If God is calling you to witness to someone, don't hold back because you're not good with your words. God wants everyone to evangelize, and He will open doors for you to. Just rely on God every step of the way, for I'm like you. I'm not good with my words, and I'm easily intimedated. However, God is so much stronger than anything you could ever face! Rely on His strength, and everything will be alright.

I think sometimes, it's pride that keeps us from witnessing. I know some people who couldn't share the Lord out of fear that their 'image' that they creatde would be ruined and people wouldn't think of them as 'cool'.... Praise God those people learned their lesson (in a not so hard way in my point of view, but to them, it's 'messep up') And yes, fear is also the major hindrance....

It took years and years of praying and even fasting for my family and friends to accept and lately, the seed the Lord has planted has started to grow and praise God, most of them has accepted the Lord and are seeking for more of Him... So yeah, prayer is the ultimate move we can do... and we have to believe with all our heart that the Lord will answer our prayers, no matter how long we have to wait (for He might just be testing us)

Before you do things, standing and walking out into the world, be firmly seated. If you know for SURE you are firmly seated in Christ, God will change the person in you, to be able to carry his grace, use his wisdom, walk in his righteousness. If you want to save face, then you might want to spend more time with Lord to ask him to help you to be more Christlike.

Because when non-believers start asking qns, most of the time they ask with a doubting heart, waiting to trap you. You gotta sit in faith before you can handle this. Don't rush into things like that. Ask the Spirit to lead you.

The thing about evangelising is that you just have to plant a seed. You don't have to show them the planting seed manuel and buy soil and all. Just let them know about God, and if you're not comfortable enough to talk about God to them, then God will BLESS YOU, so much to the point that it makes people wonder and ask YOU instead about the God in you.

God will take care of the seed once it's planted, so you don't need to do much other than watch nearby at God's miracles.

For me it's the whole "political correctness" issue. I always fear people are going to play the "offense" card and start drama... But I know I shouldn't fear because God is with me. I really do love sharing my faith and I want to see others get saved, it's just a little bit of a spirit breaker when you pray for someone sooooooo hard and you witness to them and nothing sinks in and they don't want to admit they are a sinner.

For me it is a fear of rejection (when I am trying to do it in person). But when I am on-line I dont have that fear... Weard huh, I have been all most killed several time in my life and I remember very little fear (maybe because the were over with so fast that I didnt have time to fear) but, going up to some one and telling him or her about Jesus gives me the shaks. In some ways this site has made me fear less. I pray this translates to my off line life too

You can witness by living as a witness. Pray for her, and the right moment will come. Just show her the Love of Christ, and witness when God has worked in her heart. The Holy Spirit convicts, earnestly pray for your friend, and I will pray for her too.
