because I want a perfect story! which I will like XD I mean there's always something missing in stories, you know like too short, or not really so interesting >.< or the main characters not getting together well nothing's perfect that's why I want to write a super story that I'll like I don't think I care if other's read it or not :S I don't think I really know what fanfiction is..

because they have their own version of stories in their mind. sometimes there are situations that they want to try like, what if things like this would happen to me, how would i approach the situation? its like answering those questions but their writing them down.
imaginations go wild sometimes, and you want it to happen, but it wont, so the farthest place where those wild imaginations can go is through words-fanfictions.

Because the stupid shits can't think up characters of there own so they use previously established and well rounded characters in order to make them think they have good ideas but really they are just being fucking retarded and giving characters irrational motivation. Also because they can't actually get published (see: my immortal)

Because it bridges the gap to writing an original novel. In writing fanfiction one has all the characters and settings already there and they are already know, therefore it is easier to write without the stress of creating one's own characters.

I write fanfiction mostly because I enjoy it - though if you mean what prompts me to write a specific story, well, I have a situation I'd like to see, or characters I would like to see interact (hence the Kingdom Hearts/Hikaru no Go crossover I'll be writing in November, haha. I was making waffles and decided Ahikra and Hikaru and Sora and Riku would be interesting to see interacting together).
I write original fiction, too, but I find fanfiction more challenging specifically because the characters aren't mine - they have established behavioural patterns and personalities and other people will notice if they're acting weird. I have much more leeway with characterisation of my original characters, because I've created them, so I can set the boundaries anywhere I want, as opposed to having work within boundaries set by someone else as I do with fanfiction.

They write fanfiction because they're too lazy and obsessive to come up with something original. (which suits the anime fangirl mentality perfectly)
