I think that people write fanfiction because the characters, or something, in a certain story (show, movie) are what they like. And they like the idea... but not all the way. They want to build on an already made story. They don't have to really create new characters... they just have to write about the already made characters.
Idk. I ask myself the same question. I like writing fanfiction... and people like my writing. But I always have a hard time finishing my stories.

Well I write fanfiction because when I watch an anime or read a manga sometimes ideas pop into my head that just don't leave. I write those Ideas down and they become a story. It's a hobby. I write as a freelancer for a living and fanfiction is relaxing for me and there's never any pressure to make someone else happy... I just write it. Half of the crap I write I don't even put up on LJ or whatever. I just write it for myself.
And for those of you who say it's because we have no talent... I've had a few flash fics and short stories (original works) that have won contests and have been published in small magazines. Maybe I don't have any talent, but at least there are people out there that appreciate my work.  |

sometimes, its a way of trying to reveal/show or express something according to the writer's fantasy~
Since it's fictional, its merely something enclosed of being imagined by the writer.
It's the mean of jotting down what drifts in an author's mind.

if you think about it deeply
i geuss its the inabiliy to maybe make outr own characters so we borrow other peoples to replace the empty spots
or on the other hand
just get two charcaters together
(even if its impossible)

I like to imagine. If the original series did too little or too much for me, I like to rewrite the plot so that I can get more out of it.
But if I can find another fanfiction that satisfies me, I forget about writing my own. =3

I'm still deciding whether I want to write a sexy one for Shigure and Ayame (Fruits Basket.) Something they jokingly said to eachother in volume 4 drove me crazy, and I was so pissed that it was just a joke. -_-

Sometimes it's really a relief to dream away in another world, that's why I always write fanfic stories where I create a different fantasy world like Fairy Tail, Naruto etc.
I only use it for my own purpose and to "escape" from the real world. I don't have much spare time, so my stories really gives me less stress and stuff like that. -Some people do create fanfic stories when they're really on the verge of something and are not able to escape.-
U might say it's for self satisfaction
