Haven't seen that many anime myself, but I think Alois Trancy (Black Butler) had a pretty messed up childhood.

I say Rosette from Chrono Crusade. All she had was her brother, and he was taken from her. She spends for years searching for him, and offers her sould to a demon, but when she finally finds him, he refuses to acknowledge her as his sister. I really like her character, despite her crappy childhood, she is still a strong, likable and cheerful person.
As opposed to many anime characters, who once they have any amount of suffering in their childhood, and they think it's perfectly okay for them to act like little bastards, and go on homocidal rampages. How weak can you get? And then the other characters all go 'OMG, you're so strong, you went through all of that!!!11!!!!111!' Really, you've got horns on your head and you're not a normal human, you can't simply go atound expecting to be treated like one. Is that really that hard of a concept. You have fucking horns. You are not human. I truly don't understand what is so sad. Irks me to no end. As you can see, excessive death and torture and pain shoved into my face doesn't make me feel anything for the character except intense hatred. |

You further prove how fucking weak you are, because instead of confronting the people who bully you and talking to them, you simply slaughter them. You slaughter every one who you think has hurt you because you are to weak to confront them. You go around killing innocent people to make yourself feel better. If you're sad when people take away someone you love, then it generally works vice-versa. How stupid are you? /rantover Irks me to no end. They have a genetic disposition to violence (with Nana being the single exception). So it isn't just nuture, it is nature working against her as well. As another example, keep in mind that even as a child, Goku in Dragonball was violent before he got conked on the head, and the remaining examples of his race we saw had the same disposition. |

I just fine the whold thing extremely silly. In the manga, when Lucy loses her horns, she loses her homocidal nature, and the use of her vecotrs. If it was that easy, why not just remove the horns from the babies? The thing that bothers me is that Lucy is portrayed as a tragic heroine, who is more human than the humans. The problem I have with this is that if she is going to be protrayed as human, make her act like one. She acts like a wild animal, and it's okay because she's a Diclonius. However, I judge her by human standards, because that is how she is protrayed. I will not make any silly exceptions. And I really do wonder why Nana is the the exception to the genetic 'omgomgomgkillkillkillkill'. |

The fact that Nana was an exception was just a plot device since if she was evil it wouldn't suit the plot at all from what I remember. Lucy isn't tragic at all. The fact that she kills innocent humans with no good reason whatsoever. (You lied about your cousins' gender, now everyone at this festival has to die/be traumatized along with your little sister and dad!!) and just flat out overreacts prevents me from seeing her as tragic. Sure, her past was pretty hard, but not hard enough to pull that bullcrap. As for the character with the worst childhood, Gil and Vincent from Pandora Hearts. (They both got sold off for being freaks and were mistreated by everyone since Vincent was known as the child of misfortune. A lot more happened but it's really thick in the plot so Ic an't explain it well.) Too tired to think of any more. |

Well, I have never been a fan of Naruto, but from what I have heard, Sasuke had a pretty hard childhood.
Even though it is implied, Hei/Li/Black Reaper/BK201 from Darker than Black had a pretty harsh one, since he had to become an assassin during his teen years to help his sister in Syndicate missions. Also, yin had a bad childhood before becoming a doll. Also, in Code Geass, Mao, Lelouch, Nunally, Suzaku, and Charles vi Britania had bad childhoods, which I would explain, but it would take a lot of typing, and would give spoilers. You know, the majority of the cast in Code Geass had something bad happen to them as kids. Pretty much every single character in Another. If you have seen it, you would know what I mean. That would be the worst school year EVER! |
