How do you feel about CR censoring "Charger Girl"
Posted 7/9/09
As some of you may know, "Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!" (Charger Girl) is now being shown here on Crunchyroll. But it appears we are only allowed to see an edited version. You can read all the details here:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-09/crunchyroll-streams-altered-charger-girl-ju-den-chan

Crunchyroll acknowledges the edits in its press release: "In preparing the title for a broader audience, avex entertainment, Inc. and Crunchyroll have worked closely together to make slight alterations to the original Japanese version of the show, which will later be used for its Japanese rebroadcast on UHF stations."

Although you may not care for this particular show, please keep in mind that if CR feels it's alright to censor this anime they may censor others you do like in the future - Are you going to put up with that?

Heh, I'm not interested in that one, since it's blocked, but I'm wondering how they're going to censor Kanamemo.

And, wrong section

It's understandable...

But they should have made an attempt to offer it unedited for those who like that sort of thing. Perhaps like having the uncensored version only available as download-to-own.

Watching the censored version of the 1st episode didn't made me feel the same way compared to the original uncensored one. But again thinking that this is CR, it was bound to happen.

If that's the case then they have no business showing a program like Charger Girl. If they can't air it without editing it they should just leave it alone altogether.

I think it doesn't matter, Crunchyroll has the right to do what they want with the anime they show on here.
If people hate the fact that anime is being edited, then go look for another site that has it or find them yourself, it isn't that hard.
If you can't find it, then put up or shut up.
It really doesn't bother me because there is more than one way to see something.
And again, Crunchyroll can do what they want with an anime they show.
If you think about it hard enough, it really wouldn't matter if they showed edited anime because anime is always edited in some manner or another.
That's just my two cents.

I'm afraid you're thinking on the issue is just a little to small in scale. This show in particular may not matter, but it other shows could be censored in the future. And sure, CR does have the right to do that, but that doesn't make it right. Censorship is a backwards and fascistic practice, regardless whether it's being done to a book, tv series, or anything else. We aren't living in the 1950's anymore.
Furthermore, anime is NOT always edited. In most cases what you see is what the creators intended you to see.

If CR feels that it needs to censor a show in order to make it age appropriate for its users then it shouldn't waste it's time on shows like that. There are mountains of other anime they could be showing, but the thought it was a good idea to ruin the integrity of this show and others like School Days. It doesn't make any sense at all.

Edited for spelling.

It's because in fact, the issue is on a small scale.

This show in particular may not matter, but it other shows could be censored in the future. And sure, CR does have the right to do that, but that doesn't make it right.

What you think is right and what CR thinks is right could be two different kinds of rights, what you see as a possible wrong is a possible right to them.

Censorship is a backwards and fascistic practice, regardless whether it's being done to a book, tv series, or anything else.

It may be so but that doesn't mean people have to give up the right to censor things they may see to be unfit for certain reasons just because people don't like censorship.

We aren't living in the 1950's anymore.

Again people retain the right to censor what they wish.

If CR feels that it needs to censor a show in order to make it age appropriate for its users then it shouldn't waste it's time on shows like that.

Yes that may be true but CR can do what they want with the anime, it is not just you they are showing it for, they are showing for their many other users who may be interested.

here are mountains of other anime they could be showing, but the thought it was a good idea to ruin the integrity of this show and others like School Days. It doesn't make any sense at all.

That's true that they could be showing other 'ideal' animes but there could be plans for that, you never know.
And you shouldn't assume that their idea is to ruin the integrity of the show, they are editing it for the users, and you have no idea how the show is going to be like edited so you shouldn't assume that it's already ruined to an extent just because it's censored.

Right now your points hold very little validity because it is based on what you think is right and wrong, which on CR, most likely holds no meaning because they know what they are doing.

I don't even use CR for anime anymore. Just google it, I'm sure there are bunches of uncensored sersions all over the intraw3bz.
