XD...yes. Relatively speaking I'm a pretty good speller but I remember once when the spell check somehow got turned off I'm like "How do you spell that word?" because I always relied on it automatically checking it.

(NB: I have the same thing with calculators lol...got to Year 11 and I couldn't remember how to do long division because I'd been using one for so long!)

When I was younger I would almost never spell a word wrong. Now sometimes I'll mess up a vowel on certain words. It seems like now the correct spelling doesn't stick in my head because I know if I mess it up again there will be a nice red underline under it to tell me so.

Surely when the red thing goes under a word you've spelled incorrectly, you think "oh thats how I spell it, I'll remember that for next time..."

/faceplant >_<

I get pissed off when I see topic titles with appalling grammar and spelling, its ok if they're not English speakers normally, but when I see location: US/UK I think....really?

I don't use it that often. And if I do it's one of those rare times I blank on a word or the way it looks is weird for some reason, though I'm usually right even after spell-checking. I'm the kind of person who tries to use her grammar, spelling, and punctuation properly, even on MSN. Though in texting, it's even harder...So yeah. =P

I've noticed through the years as I've become more and more dependent on my computer, that my spelling skills have declined. On the computer, I don't really think about spelling because it's corrected for me or I simply run a spell check and don't care to take the time to relearn the correct way again. Technology made it too easy for me.. *sighs*.. and now me dontz speel gud.

I seldom write anything out on paper these days and the other day as I was leaving a note for someone, I kept doubting my spelling. I used to be an excellent speller. I find it crazy how much I've lost that by depending on spell check.

Anyone else feel the same?

Yes and No.

I can see how that would happen, and there are times I wonder about my memory of words.

but frankly, I have two problems most spell checkers cannot solve.

ONE: my spelling errors are often homonyms of the words I mean to use. (know instead of NO for example. Once I was talking online about Unemployment Insurance Canada (UIC) and actually typed out You-Eye-See before my brain caught up with my fingers. ) I think it's because my lips move as I type.

TWO: One of the ways I express my patriotism is by using the Queen's English. Most spell checkers (like the one on crunchy roll) will underline Colour, Honour, Armour, etc. when I type, as I see it, Properly.

So I don't just correct underlined words, I double check the spelling and make sure it's the word Do Want to use and is spelled the way I believe it should be spelled.
