i watched the first episode and it looks interesting (im wondering what kind of man arima teppei would turn into), and i think it's gonna be a harem anime...
the girls dont look like some bimbo with huge breasts... they look pretty smart and elegant... but i've just watched the 1st episode only... so..

btw, i heard that it was adapted from an adult adventure game..

A television anime adaptation of Ricotta's Princess Lover! adult adventure game has been announced via the launch of the project's official website.

It's a neat twist to a type of series that we're all too familiar with. Plus the female leads are gorgeous looking- always a plus.

I'm really looking forward to how this show turns out and that it- hopefully- won't disappoint.

I have to agree with TobiaSR32 based solely on what we've seen already, which I admit isn't much so far.

As SR32 said, the male lead has some skills for once and has a pretty good idea when to use them. He also doesn't seem completely clueless when dealing with the opposite sex. Those 2 points alone give me some hope the series won't back-slide into the 'formula' approach.

( Now, watch me be completely wrong about it, and the show turns to suck by episode 3, which will be the Hot Springs episode, or the Festival episode, or Shopping trip/date episode, well you get the picture ....)

LOL You make it seem like those are bad things though they necessarily aren't :-p

But a strong lead typically ends in a stronger show, and stronger relationships formed which could mean that things could get pretty hectic towards the end of the series.

OK, yeah, I like bikini's as well as the next guy... just please please please be a tad less ... predictable about it!

The opening episode shows some originality in the writing... the main characters show some strength and depth, and I agree this does indicate that good things could happen. I admit I have high hopes for it. I just don't want my interest to be misplaced. (Keeping Fingers Crossed)

Well unless things in the story go sour, I for one wouldn't complain. A harem anime gives you just what you'd expect from it. Which is fine in my book.

You watch it for the girls and for laughs- for the familiar territory. If people wanted a fix on a richer storyline, they would look elsewhere obviously.

Let's face it, shows like this, you want pure escapism and a good time. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ok, I wasn't trying to condemn an entire genre. I merely raise the point that it would be a good thing to get a better product for that genre once in a while. Don't you think that some of the production studios are getting almost... well, lazy about how they go about show development?

And would it kill them to use a main protagonist model that wasn't completely oblivious to the feelings of those females he shares any scenes with. Or a helpless dolt with zero skills in ANY category that might prove useful to defeating the particular plot device currently being used? I mean, should the main dude be completely useless 100 percent of the time? Like Hayate- OK, the dude is completely hopeless at reading the females he's surrounded by. But at least he's got skills. So I like it and watch it.

If they're going to create, then BE creative!

Well from the first ep we see the saber looking girl is already his fiance so i wonder wats going to happend if this show is called Princess lover! =D well its awhile since im back here

Never said you were. Just said that shows like this are familiar territory and the formulas we've seen for it have been tried and proven to work, hence why you tend to see a lot of the same elements over and over again.

But at least in this show, they took an approach to it that isn't explored very often and made something great out of it. Teppei's the type of character that you might find more often in, say a mech show or an action/drama.

The whole loser-with-little-or-no-skills who gets the girls is just something that's worked before so of course what's worked in the past will be used again. Kinda like "It ain't broke so it don't need fixing" thing. There's a lot of really creative shows out there. There is no shortage of creativity going around. But like I said- this IS a harem anime. Shows are always made/produced with a target audience in mind, this one just has a more specific demographic. Don't misunderstand me in thinking that I don't want my shows to be creative or anything- I do. And this show is great and I enjoy it. Very much so. But I doubt a show of this nature will end up along the lines of Full Metal Alchemist or Code Geass or Evangelion in terms of story depth. It wasn't meant to.

Seems like we're closer on this subject than I thought. And this has been the longest non-flame related discourse I've been in, in a long time. My compliments to your and your writing skills. :)
