Liars. I deal with lots of nationalities on a daily basis. Every nationality seems to have their own bad behavior that many people will exhibit. Obviously, not every person has that specific trait, but a lot of them do. Filipinos are the only one who, hands down, will consistently lie, even when there's no real reason for them to lie. I'm guessing the behavior is based on the fact that they were largely subject to a foreign ruler for much of their recent history. But you need to look no further than former political figures like Corazon Aquino to see how rampant lying and corruption is in the Philippines.

Sweet tooth. I'm amazed, with the rice and sweet consumption, that Diabetes isn't more of a problem here. Ever Filipino desert I've ever tried was super sweet, and some of the combinations are a bit bonkers. I tried one sweet coconut pastry that had American cheese slices wedged in it. It wasn't a good fit.

Poverty. Goes back to number one a bit, but when I think of this island country, I think of the squalor that many people live in. It saddens me that there are people who reside above the graves of the buried aristocracy and whose duty it is to maintain the grave in return for living in the space above the grave. When typhoons have struck the Philippines, the amount of suffering people experience due to lack of supplies, manpower and logistics is extremely sad. I'm not saying that America is perfect and that our response to Hurricane Katrina was equally appalling, but with the amount of money being sent as remittance from abroad, you'd think the Philippines would worked to ensure that all people in their country have access to clean water, electricity and free education by now.
