I feel that its wrong to cast a shir person in a Asian role. Not one person in avatar was white or Hispanic or anything else. If the color of their skin doesnt matter then why couldn't they have just as easily found people who would be more believable in the role. I suppose if you're white it must be hard to understand why so many people are complaining. White people have always been at the top of the food chain. How many asain actors are there really in the industry. And I mean mainstream ones. Two or three. They are only famous because they were in asain inspired roles. It would be one thing if avatar were a book. That would leave something to the imagination, but it's not, its a show and know how these people are supposed to look. The answer is not white. Would twightlight have been the same if Edward were black? Or what about if harry potter were Mexican. The answer is no. I feel offended that in an asian based movie the main characters who are meant as Asian are white.

HA! I knew this discussion would soon be made here. And it did.

Very well, I might as well let you know that I am in favor of the movie and the casting is pretty decent. Can't really jump to conclusions on a serious topic such as racism. Now, understand that this movie is already receiving critical criticism from the fandom community all due to the race of the characters. Now then, explain to me the assumptions of racism and give me evidence of injustice occurring within the creation of this movie so far?

Another Dragonball movie failure? Right....M. Night is pretty much going to take child fantasy to a whole new level as he will take his past experience and imagination of horror movies into fantasy films for children and young teens.

I think avatar last airbender movie has bad casting like Dragonball, i'm not necessarily saying it's racist, just really stupid casting decision. I agree with Wondersmoothie, if the studio can't find asian actors, (which I find hard to believe), they should've found actors that looked more like the animated characters.

Why not give it a chance? Most people don't even count Avatar as anime anyways, why is this a big deal?

By not doing anyting about it, there will be more and more films from Hollywood that will keep casting asian roles to white actors (like the upcoming live action Akira movie)...and what little roles asians get in the American cinema. I think Avatar Last Airbender would've been a perfect opportunity for at least one asian actor (besides a typical bad guy) to get his/her foot in the door...don't you?

I don't find it racist, but I am disappointed with the cast and the director.
I have not seen M. Night Shyamalan improve after 'The Sixth Sense'.

Oh fart, not the racist argument again.

Bottom line is, the movie looks awesome. Have you seen the Zuko screenshots? Slumdog Millionare's gonna do an brilliant job playing him. And the rest of the cast doesn't look too shabby. Unexpected, maybe, but give them all a break.

I know I'm watching.

I'll still going to watch it, regardless of the race. It's not that much of a bid deal, and i see it like this. If the creators of the avatar series aren't complaining, why should we. Avatar FTW.

First, I love avatar, I will go see the movie, but i'm alittle held back by it. I saw the cast and seriously? Go look up on youtube "avatar cast" the not real ones. They did a better job finding great people to cast in avatar, some didn't but some are really good. Literally, come on. I want the movie to work so badly, but I know we're all going to complain about the voices and the actors. M. Night could have done so much better, casted the people youtuber's wanted, and voice them over with the actual voice actors. Granted that costs money, but it's hella worth it, don't you think?

Not to change the subject here..but did you see the trailer for ..The Persian Prince...yep JAKE GYLLENHALL however you spell his last name plays the PERSIAN PRINCE..WTF???? A white guy playing a Middle Eastern part....Hollywood is racist and will always be.
They do the typical spray the actor with a major tanning color and that's it..u mean there are no Middle Eastern actors who can play this part to be more realistic..this isn't the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's etc to hire white folks to play a certain ethnic group and make them up with makeup to look the part(s)...
