Norra is a vast and tall forest, kept by Elven magic.
Quite fair, the Elves have called Mytlon their home as long as the Mytlonians have. Although, ancient wars have kept the relations between the two sour at best. But, as the modern age shows itself, many are forgetting past-faults and looking towards the future.
Veila is the city of the Elves and it is hidden amongst the treetops. The Elves only let the needed in, as they are weary of strangers.

To the East of the forest rest the Avian Mountains, a treacherous line of mountains were the fierce Avion fly.
The Avion have lived amongst the mountains peacefully, ignored by others. But, the Mytlonians mining expansion into the mountains has forced the Avion to attack those who would harm their sacred mountain.
Many mines dot the mountain's base. But the only official town is the town of Tener, which is a home to miners and mineral traders of the like; the city is forced to endure constant attacks by Avion.

The tiny islands that dotted Norra's shore served as base for the ship while Leonora and Ajnabi went to the main port to get clearance into the territory.

The night was dark and most of the crew was snoozing in their bunks. Even the twins seemed tired and were curled up quietly on the side.

Ethan stood on the tiny island, shielded from the view of the ship by the trees.
"Alright then....." The boy took out a knife and twirled it in his fingers then lightly nicked his forearm. A drop of blood hit the ground and he bent down and drew the symbols his father had taught him, unique only to summoners.
He repeated the ancient symbols in his head and closed his eyes, focusing his energy from his body into symbols.
He felt his energy surge and flow and then fade as it reached his fingers....He sighed. Why couldnt he do it? He stood up and bit back a yelp as he heard a voice suddenly speak up behind him from the dark.

"Those type of runes seem like the wrong type for you" Aventh said walking up and drawing some runes int he sand "you would use something like these"
"But my father told me that- Ethan was cut off by Aventh who spke up once more
"Your father is a great man no doubt, but he also seemed to be very busy... did you ever try to summon in front of him?"
"Well, no but-
"Then that is why he didn't teach you the right runes, Ethan, your magic isn't meant for the type of summoning your father or me uses, its meant for something much more rare, and if your good at it, much more stronger"
Ethan looked at Aventh, not sure whether this man was right or wrong. He looked down at the runes on the sand and though they seemed very strange in the first glance as he looked at them, they seemed as familiar to him as if he had been seeing them for all his life. He looked back up at Aventh, "What type of runes are these?
"the runes to summon a familiar"
"Whats the difference between a familiar and a summon like my fathers?" Ethan questioned
"well... how to explain this: Aventh took out some clay and rolled three balls "lets say these to balls are your father and one of his summons, now, he can temporally "oul link with one of his summons" Aventh said taking the two clay balls and rolling them into one "but at the cost of magical energy and may years of training" Aventh took the third clay ball "but this one, would be you and your familiar... your souls never separate, you become one with your familiar, though familiars usually aren't as flashy as summons like your fathers, but they also don't require magical energy to summon or soul link with, they stay with you through out your life and become more of an eternal companion than a creature you summon when needed" Aventh said and put away the clay
"that is cool, but I still don't get it, I mean I would be happy with being able to just temporally soul link with a summon, and my fathers summons have become loyal companions with him, so whats so special about a soul link that never goes away" Ethan Asked
"Well, you need to know that the familiars growth is the same as the summoners, but as you grow with your companion in strength you will start to adopt abilities of your familiar, for example, if you summoned a lets say... a snake, it wouldint seem strong and isn't too strong on its own, but as you grow with it you will gain abilities like a snakes heightened senses and fast reflexes and would even be able to eventually see through your snakes eyes"
"Oh...." Ethan's mind was reeling...A familiar...He looked down at his hands and then clenched them, an excited smile tugging at his mouth. "How long does it take to summon a familiar?" He asked Aventh, his voice shaking a little with anticipation.
"Well first your control of magic is completely wrong, second" Aventh said reaching into his pack and pulling a huge book "you need to read up on how to summon one, being taught how to isn't the right way, read that book and then THINK about your strengths and your weaknesses, your fighting style, your personality and everything about yourself, when our done with that, tell me, but I would be quick, I do have to leave eventually" Aventh said walking back to the boat.

Ethan stared at Aventh's retreating back then at the book in his hand. Reading... He thought disgustedly but found himself hurrying to the ship to look through the book.

The candle burnt steadily through the night as Ethan poured over the book. Dawn found him alert and abosrbed deeply in the book.

The crew rose and began bustling about their chores, waiting for Leonora and Ajnabi, who still had not returned.

Ethan ignored everyone who tried to talk to him, busy in the book. Here was information he had never dreamed of knowing.

"Did you know..." He demanded on Cara who brought coffee to him, "That a familiar's summoner will adopt its abilities without wasting ANY energy...?"

"Nope." Cara said affectionately and ruffled his hair. She had never seen him so excited. She walked over to the man called Aventh.
"Hi." She said.
"Hello." He looked at her with a smile.
"Are you a summoner?"
"Of sorts." Aventh replied.
Cara looked over her shoulder at Ethan, "I was right, wasnt I?" She asked, knowing this man might know. "He is strong isnt he?"
" He has yet to adapt to his powers but he has a strong heart. You don't need to worry too much."

Cara grinned, showing a dimple. "Sounds good." She jumped up and disappeared into the sails and soon they heard her working on the mast.

A few hours later Ethan came looking fro Aventh, "Done." He said, handing the book back to Aventh.
"That was fast." Aventh said with a smile.
"Im a quick reader." Ethan said.
"Have you thought about your strengths and weaknesses and all that I mentioned?" Aventh asked.
Ethan nodded slowly, "But Im still not sure of it all." He admitted.

"Don't worry its normal to not be entirely sure, now you read that book so I would assume you know what runes to draw" Aventh asked Ethan nodded again "good, now it may take a day or more for you to summon your familiar, and I want you too keep, when summoning do not concentrate on using a lot of magic, focus your magic on your heart, your soul, and while doing that think of your strengths, and you have to keep a steady flow of magic for the entire summoning process, so be weary of your magic usage" Aventh said "other than that, I believe you are ready"

Five hours later, sitting on a circle drawn with strange ancient runes and told not to move AT ALL, Ethan was seriously beginning to wonder if he was ready.

He tried not to doze off as he sat still and concentrated on...he didnt know what. He could feel his magic flow at times and at others not at all. He could see the ship from the distance of where he sat on the small island and he sighed as he thought he'd be sitting in the shade instead of roasting out here under the blazing sun.

By evening he had had enough. "Im through!" He called out.

Aventh sat under a stone pillar shaped to give him shade and eating an apple "you not done, your frustrated, but this summon may take even a few days, just relax and concentrate on... happy memories and such? let your magic flow out naturally" Aventh said sitting up leaning on the stone pillar.

Ethan turned his back and scowled. Happy memories...hm..... A picture from long ago flashed through his mind... His family had gone to a picnic when he had been quite young. He grinned, as he remembered playing frisbee with his dad and Natalie. He had been better at Natalie at the game and his dad had praised him....suddenly magic in him blazed. His body jerked but as soon as it came it was gone.

"What the..." He muttered. He closed his eyes and focused on the memory again and sure enough the magic blazed again. He worked through the memory, trying to stem his magic but it was hard. Soon he felt exhausted. "This is hard." He panted.

"your using too much magic at once, try to calm it down when is rises up in you, once you do that you should concentrate on your strengths" Aventh said with a mouth full of apple.

"Okay..." Ethan began the process again. He concentrated on following Aventh's instructions but he was beginning to feel really tired.

"Dont give up." Came Aventh's encouragement and Ethan nodded, his sweat dripping into his eyes. He shook his head wildly, his hair flying and gritted his teeth. Control magic...easier said than done. He thought but he didnt give up and kept working on the instructions Aventh called out now and then.
Hours passed and soon it was night again.

Ethan worked through his memories and worked on keeping his magic flow, steady. He focused on his strengths and his weaknesses. He kept himself calm as his magic tried to overtake him. It was HARD!
It started slowly, so slowly that Ethan failed to notice it completely at first.
A slow sensation of flowing magic coursed through him, starting at the chest and then throughout his body. A soft humming began and the symbols around which he sat started revolving around him, slowly at frst then faster till they were whirring around him at brilliant speeds.

"It's begun!" Aventh called out and Ethan intook a breath sharply, shaking with excitement. He was SUMMONING A FAMILIAR.
"Keep the magic flow steady." Aventh called out and Ethan nodded.

part way through the summon Aventh noticed something strange, his magic was taking a physical form, It was too dangerous to stop the ceremony now, the magic slowly took the form of a bell "Is he really summoninga familiar?" Aventh thought "No... its more like a minion?... but why?"

The burst of magic sweeped through Ethan making him wince and scruch his eyes shut.
There was a rushing in his ears as the symbols flew around him and circled him.
He instictively felt the presence of his summon, he held his breath and slowly opened his eyes and looked down to see....He blinked...then rubbed his eyes....then slowly opened them again praying what he had seen wasnt so.... Prayers went unanswered. "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?" He yelled, jumping up.
A baby eagle was looking up at him lovingly and hopped nearer to him.
Ethan jumped back as if scalded and turned to Aventh as if it was his fault. "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS????!!!! IT-ITS A BABY!!!!"

"that's how a familiar starts, but" Aventh walked over to the bell that had been summoned "Can you hear your familiars voice?"
"What? no, I don't hear anything" Ethan said
"Then what you summoned was a minion... not a familiar, minions come with objects... unless this bell is something else, for the time being keep the bell and the baby with you and keep them safe, this will require some looking into" Aventh said walking away from the scene leaving Ethan sitting there looking at the bell and the eagle "Did I fail or do something wrong?" he said to himself.

Aventh stayed up that night, tearing through multiple summoning books but he couldn't find anything on what had happened earlier
"Aventh, you should get some rest your body still isn't in a good condition" Ganbrou said walking into the room with some tea and food
Aventh took the tea and sipped it "Thank you for the tea.... but I cant get to sleep... and I still cant figure out what had happened"

Ganbrou looked around the cabin, books and tomes where sprawled out all over the place
"well, have you checked myth's folk lore? it could be related to an early myth" Ganbrou said
"Yes, I have, including the druids folk lore... there is nothing on a familiar being summoned with an object" Aventh said in a frustrated tone
"Do you think it could be related to another spell?" Ganbrou sat down looking through a few of the books
"If it is... I don't think ill figure it out any time soon" Aventh said and turned back to the pile off books and continued to read through them.

Ethan watched as the little eagle tried to fly towards him but with an loud chirp fell on its face, its tiny wings fluttering excitedly, "Dammit!!!" He grumbled as he scooped up the bell and the baby eagle and stuffed them in his breast pocket. The eagle stuck out its head and chirped happily.
He raced towards the ship and found Aventh in a corner, deeply immersed in his books, "Why didnt you tell me they start out as BABIES!!!" He demanded.
"It was mentioned in the books." Aventh said, looking up from his books.
"It said they start out at INFANT POWERS." Ethan raged. "I didnt think it meant BABIES."
Aventh shrugged.
"Why did I summon a minion anyways?" He demanded. "I thought I was supposed to summon a familiar."
"I dont know." Aventh said as he looked at Ethan who was huffing indignantly. "I have not seen something like this before. Your summon is obviously a familiar but its obeying the laws of a minion, I wouldnt call it a fluke...but Im not sure WHY it happened."
Ethan looked up when he heard someone call his name and turned red with in horror, when he saw Kehkashan and Cara coming towards him.
"Did you summon?" Cara asked excitedly.
"Uh...Um..." Ethan backed away and opened his mouth to lie and cringed as he heard the tiny eagle chirp.
Both Kehkashan and Cara looked at the small eagle bobbing its head happily in Ethan's pocket and looked up at Ethan. There was a moment of silence then...He scowled angrily when they both burst out in peals of raucous laughter.

The Twins hurried over to see what the laughter was about. They spotted the baby eagle and lept on Ethan, grinning.

'It's utterly adorable!' they exclaimed in unision. Ethan scowled and they continued. 'Do eagles like water?'

'No!' Ethan said, protecting the eagle with one hand over it's head. Then he realised what he had done, and took his hand away amidst peals of laughter.

Still holding on to Ethan, the Twins shuffled him around so they could see behind him. 'Does anyone know where Leonora is?'

Aventh stood up closing the book the others gathered around Ethan still laughing, he reached into Ethan's pocket and took the bell out looking at it
"Whats that?" the twins said together
"We don't know" Aventh said and then rung the bell, no sound came out Aventh turned back to Ethan, his expression had Changed "Ethan?"

Ethan turned to Aventh his eyes wide with happiness
"I... I herd a VOICE!" he blurted out
"Probably the voice of your familiar, what did it say?" Aventh looked even more stumped
"I don't know... it was too blurry to make out" Ethan said looking down
"Well at least we know its a familiar... and its following the rules of a minion because of this bell?" Aventh said walking away mumbling with frustration to his self
"Where are you going?" Ethan shouted
"To look into this mater further, Ganbrou! lets go" Aventh said walking off the boat onto the small islands surrounding the boat, Ganbrou following.

***
"Where heading to the docks?" Ganbrou asked
"Yes, we need to find a boat to Remus" Aventh said as the walked across the water towards Norra's docks
"But wanna bought the bell and all?" Ganbrou followed next to Aventh
"Ill send them a letter when I figure it out, but I need to hurry up and finish things up so I can go back to the kids" Aventh said as they reached the docks
"Alright" Ganbrou said looking around for a boat

'Leonra!' the Twins shrieked, latching onto her around the waist. She glanced down at them.

'Can we stay-' said Tyrone.

'With you and-' continued Taryn.

'Your crew? Please?' they finished together.

She looked at the ship. 'I don't see why not,' she said. 'Sure.'

"We've got in." Leonora said and walked forward, the twins still holding on to her. She looked down at them and smiled and then plucked them off her and set them on the deck.
They immediately ran off after Dashton, who they had spottted walking up to the deck.
"Lets dock the ship." Leonora ordered and her crew set to work.

Taryn and Tyrone ran off the ship and sprinted across the water to the Land of the Elves. They flopped into the earth, arms around each other. 'It's so ... green!' they giggled together, watching the rest of the crew come more sedately down the gangway. 'So green...'

There were trees everywhere. Strange trees, like a tree which had vines hanging down from its trunk in green lines, bright against the vivid brown. And then there were the flowers. 'Beautiful...' breathed Tyrone, staring at the ground that they were lying on.

'Breathtaking...' Taryn added. They grinned at each other, and snuggled into each other closer. Then they became aware of faces staring down at them.

'Is that incest?' asked Kehkashan. They glared up at him.

'No,' they said together. 'We aren't lovers.'

'You act like it,' he said, glaring at them.

'Well, I'd liike to see how-' began Taryn.

'You'd treat your sister-' continued Tyrone.

'If you'd had your family-'

'Killed in a war you-'

'Were fighting in-'

'At aged five,' they finished together. Kekashan stared. Then he turned away, seemingly lost for words. The Twins glanced at Cara. She smiled at them.

'Come on!' she said. 'Let's go and explore!'
