I didn't know they had a manga. Is the show based from the manga or is it the other way around?

I love the anime, but I don't think I'd be able to get that into to the manga. When you take out the music and animation, it loses a lot of the drama. The original comic artist does have a unique style in terms of drawing characters, though, but some would still prefer the more normal moe-style of the TV anime.

The anime is an adaption of the manga.

It hasn't been licensed for distribution in English, so there's no legal way to read the series in English. If you really want to buy the Japanese volumes, you could always import them from Kinokuniya or Amazon.co.jp

For those who cannot read Japanese but not to encourage illegal activity, there are websites that host scanlations. If you look hard enough, you will find them. However, we must remember that scans violate copyright laws. So weigh the ethical dilemma for yourselves.

According to Baka-Updates, Saki is not licensed in English. As for Tohukyo's comment I think Mangafox is stating that the Saki property is licensed because of the fact that the show is being simulcasted on Crunchyroll, either that or it could just be an error all together.

Well, that's what happen when someone deside to yell out the answer to possible employee working in the whatever when people wants to know such fragile information, it's like asking in a room full of cop "where's the drug dealer at?". Almost up to all manga are licensed so you can't really expect the popular manga to not be asked for removal. LOL, the most funny thing is that Crunchyroll Tryied to access non-license Manga in to the site. LOL, i knew full well that it wouldn't work.

Saki is from a Manga. I do wish a LEGAL company here in North America would license it, translate it, and put it on sale. It IS on Mangafox, however there isn't any chapters due to the fact that they say its been licensed here (thats not true, as far as I know. Wiki said its only in Japan)

It would be so nice if the manga were to be licensed. However, ShadowFox283 probably is correct about what mangafox meant about what the license reference is about. For those that are interested, the manga is currently up to chapter 53, but only the first 15 chapters are scanlated. Also the anime stopped following the manga 2/3 of the way through episode 19. Chapter 53 shows a definite shift in direction from the anime.
It would be awesome if this manga would be licensed, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it. However, if something like Hikaru no Go can get licensed maybe there might be some hope however small.

You are wrong otaku1954, I have seen 53 chapters already scanlated so you can read it in raws or downloading it
I don't think it will be licensed in US since there isn't so much people that are interesting in Mahjong in US .
I read the manga of it, quite good and a lot better looking then anime, that's my thought.

Lol Saki manga (translated) wouldn't never be on any Free manga scan website, they got removed long time by someone that asked them to remove it

Or if someone would upload it, "they" would only delay the release

Ps: (i just hope no one would upload somewhere after reading this -.-")
