Okay, so clearly your opinion of the movie is bad. That's your opinion. Not mine. I think honestly they did the best anyone could with it.
Of course I wish they would pay more attention to the story and effects, but, really, who is going to put so much effort into that? You might answer that the fans would. I wish we could all ban together and create the best DB movie ever, but how would we organize that? If all you DB fans out there didn't like the movie so much, then go make it YOURSELF !

No offense everyone and Trap_Cat (Like your username btw).
I just feel very strongly about this.

No offence but the film was very poor... not just for fans of the orginal series but to anyone... I found the film very poor being honest i mean why have a character like Yamcha and not even use Wlf Fang Fist but use some stupid guns i've heard the sequel will be with a different director which THANK GOD is good news...

All this about banding together to make a film is silly... just because someone can be bothered to make a live action of it doesn't mean they deserve a lot of credit which basically is your point... and to say they dd the best they could? i'm sorry but i disagree in many respects they may of lowered the name of Dragonball with that sorry excuse of a film... they also aimed at the wrong audience... and the script was rather poor lets be honest the whole Goku going to school is a bit daft considering a common gag throughout the series was to bring up his lack of intelligence due to not being educated...

I don't diagree with them by changing the storyline from the manga because that's fine take a look at the Death note films BUT you must keep the main princples which the film doesn't... if you haven't watched Dragonball or Z then you won't understand the plot very well as it is poorly explained and the plot is explained in less than a minute...

I understand your point though... at least someone had a go with the Dragonball Franchise but it could of been something so much more

I know. BUT in retrospect I never had high expectations for DBE, I went to see the movie because I'm really a die-hard fan. ANYthing DB and I'll get it. I know they effed up big time, but, really, who expected them to EVER make a DB live action movie? I didn't. So I have to say, did you really expect the movie to be anything more than a disgrace to the manga and anime? AND who went to see a DB movie that WASN'T
accustom to the whole series? So big deal. I liked it. And you can have your opinion, I hand it back to you in one piece. Besides, if you hadn't been a long-time fan of DB, I'm sure you'd probably be there at the movie with a one. They'd explain. So poo.

AND That WASN'T my point. My point was that if you don't like my opinion, then don't reply or quote me just to argue. And I know you're just trying to make a point yourself, but just plain and simple: If you don't like the movie that's fine. (I don't know how many times I'll say this, but..) I DO!

it's not straight to dvd since it was in theaters...
and yes, the movie was all kinds of terrible.
And to SaraSmirks.....no. They absolutely did NOT do "they best anyone could" with this movie. It was simply shoved out there with no respect to the series or the fans cuz hollywood knows Dragonball is still a cash cow. There was absolutely nothing good about this movie and whover came up with it should be blacklisted.

I'm a fan of DBZ, something from my childhood past time with my brothers.
But when i saw the movie trailer, I kinda didn't like it.
i wanted it to be more.... like the series, I guess.
& my brother heard from his friends that it sucked. Sorry for people who are sick of hearing this.
But anyways, BIG FAN OF DB and so on. :]

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Uhm, anyway. The movie is not based on the anime or the manga.

It's based on the legend and the story. They went into detail about this before it even started showing in theaters. It has everything to do with the legend and nothing to do with the actual manga and anime.

They were concerned about this too. It was a legend they wanted to promote, but they said they were worried about all the little kids that would be comparing it to their cartoons. I'm sure everyone would have thought the DragonBall movie was interesting if they had NEVER heard of the legend of the Dragon Balls nor had a pre-concieved notion of what it should be like.

EDIT: it's kind of like if we had a manga and anime about a Brother's Grimm story. And then they went and made a movie about that same story. The movie would be about the story, not about the manga or anime.

Except the fact the legend and everything else about the Dragonball universe started with the manga. The anime is based off of the manga as well. There was no novel, any story or legend about Dragonball prior to the manga, which started it all. Your analogy about Brother's Grimm story doesn't work here. Those two had a back story, and they wrote fairy tales and their lives were turned into legends as time went on. That's completely different from Dragonball, which originally started with a manga, there is no legend or backstory behind it, the manga is the story.

A better analogy would be comparing Dragonball with Harry Potter. The whole Harry Potter universe started with the books, and the movies other things were based off of that. What they did with this "Dragonball" movie is like if when Warner Brothers made the Harry Potter movies, but instead of going by the original material (the books) made Harry an American college student turned wizard super agent, Dumbledore is his trainer, and Voldemort is the president of some rogue country who tries to take over the world by attacking their organization (stupid analogy, but you get my point). The story ends up being nowhere close to the original material, all they used were the names, and in addition, there's horrible acting, obvious fake looking CGI, a laughable script, and an incoherent plot, among other things. I wonder how fans would react if WB did that with the HP. That's exactly what happened with this Dragonball movie. I hope 20th Century Fox learned their lesson with this.
