English-Language Poster For “Chuno”

Here’s an interesting teaser poster for the upcoming Kwak Jung Hwan sageuk Chuno, where you can read a little blurb in English on the drama’s plot. Isn’t it pwetty? I think it’s pwetty. In fact, everything coming out about this drama sounds pwetty – or should I say badass? Yeah, badass is a really good word for it.

Furthermore, a few days ago, a little collection of highlights from the first few weeks of filming was released, and watching it made my heart do somersaults out of my throat. SO EXCITING. Like seriously, I’m not even all that worried about Oh Ji Ho anymore. He looks good, don’t you think? And Jang Hyuk seems fine, and Lee Jong Hyuk looks as sexy as ever. (But where’s Lee Da Hae, yo?)

Chuno airs its first episode on January 6 2010. But I wish it were airing tomorrow instead.

Jang Hyuk to Return to TV
[2009-10-28]

Actor Jang Hyuk will return to TV as a slave chaser in the KBS2 special drama with the working title of “Slave Chaser.”

Jang plays Lee Dae-gil from a wealthy, noble family who turns into a vengeful slave chaser when a slave ruins his family by setting fire to his home and fleeing. Although cold-blooded, stubborn and calculative, he still has a pure heart despite the fact he failed to achieve the life he wanted.

Oh Ji-ho plays Song Tae-ha, who is reduced from an army general to a slave chased by Lee Dae-gil.

Jang, who is well-known for his martial arts skills, performed most of the stunts himself in action scenes. He is reportedly working on other various martial arts such as taekkyon and jeetkunedo to better portray his character, who picks up fighting skills on the street.

The drama also features model-turned-actor Han Jung-soo and actor Kim Ji-seok as Jang’s fellow slave chasers.

Congratulations to Jang Hyuk & his wife who are expecting their second child end of the year or early January.

Oh Ji-ho to Make First Appearance in Historic Drama
2009-11-04

Actor Oh Ji-ho will appear in a period drama for the first time since he started his career as an actor. He has gained popularity by playing comic roles in dramas such as “My Wife is a Superwoman” and “Couple or Trouble.” He is currently appearing on the weekend entertainment show “The Invincible Baseball Team.”

Oh will play Song Tae-ha, an army general who was reduced to a wanted slave during the Joseon era in “The Slave Hunters” scheduled to air in January next year. The character is a political scapegoat who does everything to restore his reputation.

Oh reportedly caught people’s eyes from the first shoot on August 13 where he appeared in blood-stained tattered clothes in a violent fight scene. He also impressed the crew with the physique he has built for his role. He has been working out hard and learning martial arts since he was cast.

The drama is expected to be an opportunity for Oh to show a new side of himself as his role of a strong-willed, cold-hearted fugitive is quite different from the timid, humorous characters he typically plays.

“The Slave Hunters” is written by Chun Sung-il, well-known for screenplays such as “My Girl Friend is an Agent” and “Once Upon a Time,” and produced by Kwak Jung-hwan, whose previous work “Conspiracy in the Court” received rave review for dealing with insightful themes in a creative way in a historic drama.

Lee Da-hae’s sad wedding scene for Chuno

These stills were released from KBS’s upcoming sageuk-action drama Chuno (Slave Hunters) on the 16th, which feature the drama’s leading lady Lee Da-hae dressed in wedding garb wearing a sad expression on her face.

In the storyline, Lee Da-hae’s character Hye-won is caught in a love triangle between her two male co-stars, Jang Hyuk and Oh Ji-ho. Her love with Jang Hyuk’s character is hindered by the gap in their social standing; while dealing with her disappointment over that love, she meets Oh Ji-ho’s character and the two fall in love. These stills show her sadness at being pressured into an unwanted marriage in order to maintain her yangban (aristocratic) standing.

Chuno, which will premiere on January 6, 2010, is Lee Da-hae’s first role since the disappointment of East of Eden, which was supposed to be a high-profile vehicle for her but instead relegated her to minor supporting character status. She took a long hiatus after dropping that drama, and if pre-show buzz proves accurate, Chuno will be a much better setting for her to show off her talents at melodrama.

Here are a few more stills, featuring Jang Hyuk, Oh Ji-ho, and Kim Ji-suk:
