Race doesnt have anything to do with it. Its because many minorities lack the OPPORTUNITIES that many white people have. By instituting affirmative action, less fortunate people have a chance. Its not like they're taking your spot to Harvard or anything. If I lived in a slum and had failure parents, how could i possibly be on the same level as the successful white people? This is just my opinion and i like A.A. cuz everyone should have a chance.

The only real thing this program promotes is racism.

By eliminating the sex. and race. part on a application, and base your recruiting on experience and education. You find that over time racism in general will decline.

This tactic should be used on both for jobs and Collage.
Also for financial aid. Should be based on income and not on race or sex.

You know I am right. Image

Actually, the percentage of African American applicants to Harvard and other ivy league schools is significantly higher than the percentage of white applicants who’re accepted. So, some people might argue that it does have an adverse affect on my chance to get into Harvard. If I applied and there was one open spot, and a slightly less qualified African American applied, he’d have the better chance of getting into Harvard.

On the flip side, his advantage isn’t necessarily my disadvantage. While the theory makes since I’ve yet to see a single study to demonstrate it. So, I still don’t see how affirmative action hurts white people. Still, that’s their perspective.

My problem with affirmative action is that it doesn’t work. African Americans still aren’t getting equal opportunity.

IMO, "Affirmative Action" is counter-productive. Not only does it draw attention to someone's race (whereas in an ideal world employment should be "colour blind") it also risks people saying "so-and-so only got that position because of his colour." Also, a perception that certain groups get special treatment can only lead to resentment, and thus racism.
