but my father grew up speaking nam.

How odd, I must be living in the wrong location!
I'm like one of the only nams' living in a city with almost all bac people.

The older generations are from Bac but my mom's (and dad's) generation is from Nam.

Mom = Nam Ky
Dad = Bac Ky
Me = I speak with a Nam Ky accent.
