The Vampire Diaries is an upcoming TV drama based on the book series of the same name by L.J. Smith. The plot revolves around Elena Gilbert, a tragic young heroine who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers—one good, one evil—who are at war for her soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. It is scheduled to premiere on The CW on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 8 p.m.

It looks good, but some of it still reminds me of Twilight

Oh! i can't wait to watch it! i read the book and i thought it was interesting. it's way different from twilight.

Too much like a rip off of Twilight, can't put any effort to take it any seriously. I know, I know, Vampire Diaries the book came first, but Twilight was more popular and is hot so it coming out after Twilight became popular just makes it look like a ripoff even if its 100 times better than Twilight. It'll get compared to it no matter what. Would it have been a series at all, if the Twilight series didn't take off like it did? Plus, the dudes look way too old to be in high school. And it's too angsty based on the trailers I've seen. I'm already down enough. And it's CW where sex drugs and alcohol with teens are glorified. I mean i get that it happens and all that, but in every episode, there's usually sex, drugs, and/or alcohol involved. To me, it is saying that it is normal to go drinking while still in high school and that having sex is a norm and that you should lose it as soon as possible because everyone else already lost it. It's just not right.

PFttt! If you actually look at the history, the vampire diaries books were out way before twilight. So technically if anything is like anything. It's twilight that's like the vampire diaries.

im watching it and im currently enjoying it.
and if you look/read/watch closely enough, they're actually two so-different stories.
(and duh, just because it's about vampires that doesn't mean it has to be compared to twilight.)

Just watch it if you care about comparing Vampire crap. How are you going to enjoy other vampire series that could be better then Twilight.

A much better series than Twilight that's for sure....Damon is the best, only because of the memories I have with him being Boone, well and at least he is not a lame vampire who doesn't chomp on humans, as well as the fact that he's just hot. I acknowledge the fact that the series is actually not that great, but it really grows on you and is entertaining.

i dont see meridith..i heard they ripped off her caharacter..so sad....she played a big part in the book!

And I thought about adding on to the whole, 'Vampire Diaries isn't a rip-off of Twilight' especially considering it was written before Twilight, but, I'm sure we've got the idea by now.
I agree with ya', lostty, the show grows on you, high-quality or not.

I was dissapointed, yes the tv series is good but its NOTHING like the books. They stuck to it somewhat but they are twisting it so badly. It would've been an even better series if they actually stuck to the book
They've made up too many characters, viki was NOT a major character at all. Elena had a little sister who was what four? I dont remember her ever dumping Stefan she always stuck by his side.
Vampire diaries is better than twilight, because of the fact its not so much a chick flick its got more action in it so all genders can watch it and still be entertained.
I really hope they include what happened with Katherine at the end of the first book happens, that would be awesome.

i love this show sooo much!!!

i think anyone who compares anything "vampire" to twilight is just plain retarded.
