I was reading D.Gray-man when I found out about Gintama. I was on CR and I randomly just heard about it so I went to Wikipedia found out about it. The plot interested me so I decided to watch the 1st Gintama episode. I did and I loved it. I'm currently also reading the manga of it too =]

I guess I kinda knew about it for along time, though I heard it was horrible. Eventually I met another Otaku and I stumbled into the subject. He told me to watch the series. After a few episodes I was hooked. About 20 and it became my favorite show of all time, (kicking Mejin Tantei Nougami Neuro and Bleach down from their ranks)

A friend showed me a manga volume of it, since he would rather buy the manga than read online, not that it's a bad thing . Well the volume he showed me was when the Yorozuya went to the Shinsengumi's Headquarters because they were hired to exorcise the ghost, needless to say it was hilarious along with the cross-dressing later in the volume and when they were left in charge of a convenience store and start eating the merchandise, and at the end came Ayame Sarutobi (Sa-chan) and I was forever sold to this series

friend.

i swear, i would'e NEVER even taken a LOOK at gintama if it's not for my frd's recommendation.
i always thought it's not my style, & had this prejudice against gintama, think it's sth like REBORN w/ a shallow storyline & shallow chara's (also ugly...at least Reborn had good-looking charas).

but boy was i wrong!
there are sooo many layers/elements in gintama i was overwhelmed! it offers soo many insights abt life (title of each ep, chara quotes, regardless the funny stuff or the serious stuff), even teaches you about life! and always leave food for thoughts

i usually like more serious stuff, a plot with meaning, or sth you can reflect on.
gintama not only offers me a good laugh (i have NEVER came across an anime with such ingenious sense of humor), it gets serious & deep when it needs to!! (Itou arc, benisakura, Yoshiwara...basically all of the arcs)

almost every ep has cute, witty pieces & bits that you'll like!

i am awed by the writer's ingenious creativity... *bow down to you sensei!!*
gintama is simply brilliant!

it's under-rated!!!

I can't remember exactly why I began watching it... But I'd seen it around a lot and I saw a picture of the cast cosplaying as Bleach characters. I thought it was fan art at first, but then I saw the video on Youtube and found out that it was in the anime. I was obsessed with Bleach at that point in time. I have a thing for silver/white haired guys and I read the main character was one so I don't know, I ended up watching it ^^ (at an anime streaming site for about eighty episodes then on Crunchyroll). Now, it is one of my most favorite anime ever. All the people who created it are geniuses. NEVER laughed so much at anything in my life!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I actually read the first chapter of the manga first. I thought it was kinda funny and could be interesting but nothing stood out at first. I went to a discussion page somewhere and they said the anime was much funnier than the manga so thats why I began to watch ^^

I was on animecrazy and saw Gintama in one of their polls, and I was like, " WTF IS THIS!?" Then out of curiosity I checked it out....and haven't watched Naruto or Bleach since

well, i found this anime as there's one tv channel here in my country airing it for like 20 eps something and stop it with all of a sudden. i got confused and decided to watch it online. only then, i knew why it was being suddenly stopped..that's because gintama has lots of inappropriate jokes for underage.

i love gintama

was reasing and watching other various anime/manga but every single time I came across gintama, I checked out the summary for the manga and it seemed really retarded so i didn't try it, then my sister started watching a random ep of it (the Appo one) and it seemed interesting, later I tried the manga, I loved it but the text was waaay too much to read.

So i tried the anime from where I left off and got hooked lol.

I love how gintama is so different from other anime, its long running without all the battles and stuff, they have actual funny jokes that make me laugh, the characters are alot different, they aren't as predictable as other characters with all the "yeah we friends, I'M WEAK! predictable etc stuff (hate those naive chars), and they aren't all angsty bishi teenagers trying to save the world.

The villains actually have some depth instead of the destroying the world just cause I feel like it thing like most over rated anime/manga and Gintama actually does a propper job of being epic without all the special moves/techniques, it has meaningful ORIGINAL words that actually give me goosebumps

I like how its so quotable and is sooo original (cept for its parodies of course lol)
The characters are also connected in this weird way rather than the typuical "nakama" thing i see from alot of anime, its alot deeper, you can see it, with the yorozuya and shinsengume, etc.

I think it was "obnoxious bonds" they called it?

Its nice how they can make you cry one moment then laugh the next, they cover alot of genres.

Though they mask it with jokes, it covers alot of deep and serious elements, and they can turn a character you hate into one you cry for easily. They actually put depth into side characters and give them a personality, not only through strange character traits like other anime.

Long-live gintama
ah and sorachi-sensei
hope it never ends.

I read chapter 1 of Gintama in jump, and figured i might as well watch the anime years later when i saw it here on cr ^.^
[i confess, i was like 13 at the time, and thought it was stupid, shallow and lacking in art skills; well, turns out i was a real moron!Thank god i gave it a chance anyway, cuz now its my all-time-forever favorite anime, unrivled by even deathnote for me ^.<]

My sister kept bugging me about it, but at the time I was only interested in "serious" anime, then she chloroformed me and tied me to a chair, stapled my eyes open, and introduced me to perhaps the world's greatest anime, and at the very least my #1
