i donno if ive said it enough but... this game looks fundamentally unchanged, and not in a good way. it looks stuck in the second gen, sure they change the costumes and the weaps, but thats what they did between 3-5!! (hence stuck in the second gen) id better see some uber graphics improvements and new gameplay mechanics

so. i hear they didn't keep the japanese audio option and you're forced to listen to the HORRIBLE english voices again, even though this is supposed to be next-gen... heavenly sword has 11 diff audio languages, all i'm asking for here is 2....

i've never played a dynasty warrior game before but from what i hear, 6 is pretty much just like 2 or 3, with better graphics. it's old gen gaming underneath the blanket of next gen graphics .

How exactly do you define next-gen gameplay? If you look at most game series, there's been very little gameplay change from one sequel to the next. Most of the change is always in terms of graphics. How much change was there between DMC3 to DMC4, Halo 2 to Halo 3, God of War to GoW2? And series people praise for innovation like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy didn't really make any big gameplay change at all until RE4 and FF12. You can always argue that they do make small changes that affects the gameplay, but then so does the DW games abeit not as much, but they do change enough. I'd always say if you spend enough time on each DW games, you'll start to notice that they're not the exact same games, and the amount of change they make is about the same as most other series out there.

Me, I'll be getting DW6, only because I've only gotten DW3 and Orochi (which arguably plays the most different compared to the other ones). Which is another thing, if you don't want to buy all the installments which you feel are the same games, then buy only one or two out of many, that way it keeps it feeling new when you buy a new one.

well first of all, if you're already a fan of the franchise then obviously you're going to buy DW6 no matter how bad the reviews for that game are, right? the only people who buy and enjoy DW6 are the ones that enjoy that same kind of gameplay you find in every DW game, like you. for others outside the fandom, like me, it will take more than an old game wrapped in pretty graphics for me to spend 60 bucks on it. might as well find a used copy of dw3 or whatever older version for 10 bucks or something.

i understand that it's the essence of the same kind of gameplay that establishes a series, but the dynasty warriors games seem to have made the LEAST amount of effort in new innovation. . which you've even admitted to. what's the difference between dmc3 and dmc4? there are tons... instead of 1 playable character you can play 2, each with their own set of moves and weapons. dmc1-3 have all been very limiting in terms of the amount of moves you can perform, and dmc4 has nearly tripled/quadrupled it. the story telling aspect of dmc4 has also improved dramatically if you compare it to its old gen counterparts, and there are other things that have improved, you'd know if you've played all the dmc games. sure the very basics are kind of the same, but dmc has come a long way since last gen. of course there's always room for improvement... the linear maps and other things... but i guess that's where dmc5 comes in right? (i'm only talking about dmc because i don't play halo or gow.)

i can't say much specifically about DW6 because like i said, i've NEVER PLAYED a DW game before.. but from the people that i KNOW who have played past dw games, they say it feels the same, not much change except graphics and more enemies on screen, (which are not the greatest... heavenly sword's masses of enemies was a lot more impressive and fluid.) and the maps are a little bigger. i'm just sayin DW6 had a lot of potential but they wasted it because they didn't explore what else they could do on a next gen system. maybe DW7 will be better, and i'll think about trying it then. who knowss??

and i still don't understand the reasoning behind throwing out another language audio option!=_=! if we can play uncharted in french, or heavenly sword in portugese, i think we should be allowed to hear dynasty warriors in native japanese..

It all depends, if you haven't ever played any DW games before, then at least try one game before making any judgement on the series. You won't know if you'll like it or dislike it until you try one. So yeah, buy DW3 for 10 bucks and then see about buying DW6 or not, cause at least between DW3 and 6 there's enough change to warrant a new game. And although more languages would be a nice option, it's not that big of a deal that should stop you from liking the game as a whole (and actually many prefers the bad cheesy voice-acting). People saying a game is bad doesn't necessarily mean that you'll also hate it. And if you want a good amount of gameplay change, buy Warriors Orochi instead of DW6.

And just to point out, you're talking to a fan of the DMC series. I've owned both DMC1 and 3, and have played 4 on my friend's 360 (the only reason for nothing having it is my limited budget, but I'll have it soon). The problem with DMC4 is that it actually felt like a downgrade from DMC3 (which I felt like the best in the series). DMC4 actually has less weapons and styles than DMC3. Nero and Dante plays differently only because of Nero's Devil Bringer, which although a very welcome change, isn't too big or innovative. This and also that Nero has only 2 weapons (3 if you count Yamato) and no styles. Even Vergil as an extra in the SE version has 3 weapons (4 if you count sword summon) and 1 style. Dante have 2 less weapons and styles. Admittedly, Lucifer and Pandora are both good replacements (I'd still want Beowulf over Gilgamesh), it would still be better to have a little more options. The story is arguable cause I actually liked DMC3's story more than DMC4 probably cause DMC4 seems to have more story, yet most are cliches that you've seen before. And plus instead of having Vergil, a contrast to Dante, we have someone who feels like a wannabe Dante in Nero.

in all honesty, the whole idea of DW was really appealing to me, but the only reason i haven't tried it yet is because of the horrible english voices. as a fan of old chinese literature and character design, hearing those voices will actually ruin the experience for me (some people LIKE those voices? omg.). i was actually considering renting dw6 before i found out you're still stuck with english dub.. sigh =[ .

and sorry for assuming that you weren't a dmc fan, but most feel like 4 was an upgrade, and you thought otherwise so that threw me off . i know that you could play vergil and other chars in the past games too, but the ability to be able to play them felt so random and out of place. i've never been much of a vergil fan myself, so i forgot about him haha. there are less weapons, yes, but more moves, which was what i was talking about.. and also when i said dmc4's story has improved a lot, i was talking about the WAY the story was told, not really the cliche love story itself . i used to think that nero was a wannabe dante, but he's grown on me. fans either love and accept him or just hate him cus he's not dante... poor kid. anyways, we can talk about dmc another time.. this is totally going off topic.

Yeah I know we're going a bit off topic so apologies for that. Nero just never grew on me, cause it felt like the creators wanted a new character but didn't want to lose a winning formula in Dante, so they made Dante 2.0 unlike Vergil who was completely different.

Like you, I'm also a fan of Chinese literature, and I knew the Three Kingdoms story before I knew about DW. The book got me interested in DW and since I enjoy DW's gameplay, it was a definite plus. And if you ever listen to some DW fans, they actually said that the cheesy voice-acting is what made the series fun (not me, I always thought that the voice could use an improvement). But like I said, the bad voices shouldn't be something that's stopping you from trying at least one DW game.

sima yi new weapon is cool, but it's a pain to level him up, diao chan is a lot better in this game, the only thing i don't like sp far is they gave zhang liao pang de's move sets grrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

The game is pretty awesome. I play DW6 on the xbox360 and the challenges and leaderboards add nice replay value. I admit the skill tree and weapon combo is lacking though. I don't like how after I've maxed out a character I can't go back and enjoy looking for better weapons. The gameplay is changed as well. Enemy AI has improved and officers put up a decent fight.

I've always liked Lu Xun and his new changes are pretty awesome. Rampage ranked number 1 on the xbox360 with him yay Gamertag=That Lao Guy.
Cao Pi is also a badass. he's got one sword but he sure does kick ass with it.

Ma Chao in DW 6 has been gimped, sadly. I hope they work out all the characters in the extreme legends.

Nope, you're thinking of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam (it's basically DW gameplay with Gundams), the spinoff that actually came long after the DW series started. The real DW games involve historical battles in the days of ancient Three Kingdoms China.
