Geekkon is held in Madison Wisconsin Oct 23 - 25th. Anyone going? this will be my first ever convention and I'm kind of bummed as it isn't dedicated to just anime its a bunch of "geek" stuff.

HI, SF!
I hope you liked GeekKon, anyway. I helped GeekKon with their AV equipment needs, but I'm a staff member for another con that we call an anime con, but is really about many things that are considered "geeky" (we call it "No Brand Con"). Don't let the multiple "geek stuff" bother you even though you seem to like just anime. Most people like many things that may be related (anime, games, cosplay and music come to mind). It's difficult for a convention to draw enough people when they have only one type of fan favorite activity to offer. Even if some people don't attend any of the planned activities, they find people with similar interests they can talk to who understand them. Socializing is a big part of many conventions. Also, conventions that consider themselves primarily something else (like Science Fiction) usually have at least one anime viewing room, too. Same reasons as above.
Now that you tried Geek.Kon, I recommend you try DaishoCon (Stevens Point, WI), Anime Detour (Twin Cities), SoGenCon (Sioux Falls, SD) and No Brand Con (Eau Claire, WI) (all anime cons), but also consider the other cons in your own backyard like MarsCon and Convergence (Twin Cities SF cons that also have some anime in them).
