Crown Prince Naruhito and his family will move into a remodeled palace later in the month as the facility was renovated to be energy efficient after yearlong repair work, the Imperial Household Agency said Thursday.
The agency replaced old water and gas pipes, made lighting equipment and air conditioners more energy-saving, and built an addition to the nearly 50-year-old facility for a total of around 1 billion yen in fiscal 2008 and 2009. The crown prince’s palace, along with the emperor’s residence in the Imperial Palace and the agency building, is now equipped with solar panels, the agency added.
