I think it is pointless since their are people who do it for fun or just to show off which doesn't actually do them any good

Look up Swoon and try to tell me you don't think any of the stuff she produces is art. Read about her and how her art has actually influenced people.

P.S. - Her graffiti does her good... they have some of her works in art museums and galleries. And anyway since when does producing something for fun make it pointless?

If its stupid then...I hate it.
But if it's artistic and actually ....beautiful I love it.

Some graffitti is really nice, but it's stupid 'tags' that i don't like.
They're horrible, lack creativity and pointless.

I enjoy American Graffiti does that count?

I'm pro graffiti... but anti tagging and people scratching the windows on trams and bus shelters.

There should be designated areas for graffiti (there is one opposite my local tram stop, and the graffiti there is honestly pretty good).

My favourite graffiti art is by "Bansky" he says things with his art, is a great anarchist, but also produces good art while he's at it. One of his works was kept from being painted over after residents voted that they wanted it to remain.

sure they want that their pics are looking good(cool),like most of artists in history.what is it with that"whites are always oppressing the blacks"thing, never saw something like that, here there are a lot of them having political statements on many subjects.and if you dont see emotions in the pic that i put up,and consider it not art because of that ,you probably dont consider like 90%of nowadays artists work as art.

If 90% of today’s artists are graffiti artists or rappers then no. Not in the least. For me it’s a cool picture and nothing more. That’s my opinion, and I welcome to it rather you agree with it or not. Not that you said I wasn’t but still… Anyway, this isn’t a topic worth debating over. At least not from my point of view. It’s a blunt clash of opinion, because, as you said, there is no set definition of art. So we create our own definitions. I’ve already posted mine.

But come to think of it, reading other peoples replies, I think I may have a warped definition of graffiti. Cuz like, the picture in this post:

Is not what I consider graffiti. For me that’s a painting. It may have been painted with a spray can, but that doesn’t make it graffiti. Well, by the dictionary definition it is, but that’s ignoring the meaning that people have attached to it. The connotation and like. Cuz the dictionary definition is: writing on walls:

drawings or writing that is scratched, painted, or sprayed on walls or other surfaces in public places (takes a singular or plural verb)

Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 1998-2004 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

So technically any publicly displayed painting, or drawing, from those awesome chalk pictures:

Are graffiti. But that’s not what we typically consider graffiti. Same thing with Swoon. I’ve admired her work, but haven’t considered it graffiti, because it captures a kind of realistic look:

I do consider those art…

I think graffiti has its good and bad. There are those who do it without a purpose, I can admit that I've been through those days, but there are also those who have a goal in mind. A lot of graf artists are political and use their art to fight against the oppression from society and their government. Check out some of the stuff in Brazil or South America, that stuff is amazing.

I think it's very artistic I just don't like it on my house. My house has been tagged three times already, now it would be fine if it were something positive but it's always gang related which I don’t like.
