What do you think of OCs?

OC stands for "original character." A character created by a fanfic author or roleplayer. Said created character does not belong to the canon cast but is inserted anyway for entertainment. (Or, if the mun/author isn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box, to totally ruin the story and make it focus around them.)

Many OCs appear as long-lost family members, past lovers, or exchange students. These background stories provide alibis for the sudden appearance and previous absences of the OC.

So, yeah. What do you think of them? Do you have one?

(Just to share my opinion - I think they're okay as long as they have their flaws and such. And the mun/author can't ruin canon just to make the entire roleplay/fic focus on their character... I can't stand that. Also, I don't have one.)

Lock if it's a duplicate, but I checked~.

It's like a fan-created character... Like say for, uh, Naruto, lol, someone made up a character and then wrote fics/roleplayed as them but the character wasn't actually in the show, that character would be an OC.

I apologize if I'm being too confusing.

but then again i am new in watching anime so i don't think my opinion is that valid / accurate

they ruin everything

It depends on the author's ability to write.

If they can create an OC and insert them in a fan fiction without completely ruining the story than it’s ok, but if it’s a mary sue, than it becomes a problem.

I just write Original Fiction, than I can create my own world and characters.

I have many, since I write fan fictions myself. I find it easier to write that way, because i have a character that i can manipulate and chose a personality for. I don't really know why people think OCs are bad, because they add a bit of originality to a fan fiction or roleplay, and displays the creator's individuality and creativity.

I don't mind OCs used in roleplaying, as long as the person doesn't rewrite the entire plot (where specific anime roleplaying is concerned) to suit his/her character. However, I detest them when it comes to fanfiction, since most of the time they're written horribly.
