While it's not -exactly- going extinct, it is being overfished and there's a general fear that this may one day cause extinction. This is not new though, it's been reported this way for the last five or so years but the mass media has only picked up on it since the book "The Sushi Economy" (good book BTW) was released.

sushi that are sold by non-japanese people in food stalls taste like crap. dont compare them to real sushi in japanese restaurants.

regarding the topic, yeah.. it's true. kinda sad cuz I love tuna (second to salmon, tho).

this is a crappy topic since the person who started it thinks that the tuna is the only fish used to make sushi, but yeah the ocean is dying. its pretty screwed up...if you don't like it stop eating fish, i did.

here's an article about whats happening to the biodiversity of the oceans ecosystem: http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/short/314/5800/787

Tuna is going extinct because it's so hard for them to survive and grow old they get killed to quickly by other predators and fishermen. But there are plenty of different kinds of sushi.

Some fish may go extinct or be endangered soon. Tuna will be pretty common for a long time though although everyone's worried about the mercury level in lots of salt-water fish.

@ zad08: You should go to a good restaurant and start off with Americanized versions or even have sushi that have cooked seafood or vegetables in it. So you can get used to it before you hit up the raw fish. Or even the Salmon Egg Rolls.. (ugh)

Ouh, don't say that.
there are many more sushis, right?
Salmon sashimi, cali roll, nori...
Anyway, I second you that tuna is now in a dangerous zone.
