Dumbest Female in Anime History |
Kobbern wrote: Most females in Anime are not really ment to be, y'know smart. Unless of some main characters, like Rukia from Bleach. It's the weird appeal they have, that innocent girls is the thing. That's what totally puts me off rooting for the female characters, I can't relate to them at all. I'm really missing some female personalities with some spunk. Either it's like they are totally dumbstruck or they are too "hardcore", I don't know maybe I haven't seen enough anime but the female spectrum doesn't seem to be that multifarious, the male spectrum on the other hand seems completely numerous and varied. Ahem, enough with the rambling I see. I generally liked Vampire Knight to some extent, but at times I wanted to rip off Yuki's head because of her stupidity. |

True, its rarely few with unique characteristics like some of the males.
But if you want to see a good one, i recommend "Kino's Journey," its short but a good series. Amunat wrote: Kobbern wrote: Most females in Anime are not really ment to be, y'know smart. Thank you for the recommendation, I'll check it out. |

Threads like this is very common on anime forums and every time I read these I keep thinking the same thing. Conversations such as these are very "circular", meaning the logic or reasoning that support or refute claims are always subjective (rather than objective) contexts and that there is an overwhelmingly hypocritical attitude towards female characters.
In other words, when male characters do stupid things, we laugh it off as humor but when female characters do stupid things we call her stupid, idiotic, dumb, etc. However, to make matters worse, if female characters do "annoying" things that also make them "dumb". If they are "useless" (not as powerful as other main characters) they are "dumb". The model example is Orihime. She's probably one of the most annoying characters in anime, but she's not "dumb" nor is she "useless", but many would disagree. However, let's not forget that if it weren't for Orihime, Chad and Ishida would be missing an arm. Ichigo would've died.......how many times, now? There's that fight with Byakuya and Ulquiorra punched a hole in him twice. Yet it seems that Orihime-haters only focus on her few bad qualities and ignore the good in a person. I think the same can be applied to all the characters listed in this thread. This actually goes beyond anime or entertainment and into real-life person interactions: If you focus on the negative aspects of a person, then you'll see nothing but their bad qualities. So very few people are capable of forgiving the flaws in another human being. |

Omni5l45hX17 wrote: polx you sound as if you have some sort of grudge against characters made by KEY care to provide a reason? Well for me I find the whole entire female cast of School Days to be pretty dumb. One has to admit that every single character knows absolutely nothing that is going on around them. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide They all assume that Sekai was going out with Makoto while he is actually going out with Kotonoha and not only that NEITHER of the two main girls say anything and just let everything escalate. With that said it's also as if networking doesn't even exist even though they all have cell phones (as a matter of fact it plays a significant role in the show despite not being shown often), news about anything revolving around the characters does not spread at all. Yep. I dislike Key anime in general. They are all really touching and highly emotional but tend to throw realism out the window. The females are pretty much mentally and/or physically broken fountains of moe. |

So very few people are capable of forgiving the flaws in another human being. I mostly agree with you, but you're forgetting that opposed to most male characters, many female anime characters are dumb/helpless/weak/meddlesome by design.. For some reason it seems to be attractive or endearing to the creators targeted audience. How is your opinion of Orihime being annoying any different than other peoples opinion that she is dumb? Yours is no more "fact" based than theirs. Personally I find her annoying in her stupidity, helplessness and generally her personality.. The "negative" elements of her character design just by far outweighs her strong points. She has done good things and you can't argue her kindness, but she's done so many many more things that can only be described as straight out dumb. I don't know of a single main character that hasn't ended up on the brink of death because she decided to do something idiotic where she ends up being completely in the way/useless despite her bravery. Ugh.. Getting flashbacks of her constant name-spamming.. So gonna end it there.. D: Point is, it's an anime where all the characters have been designed in spesific ways to appeal to spesific audiences, but there is no logical answer as to 'this is how you should view this character, and these should be your opinions of him/her' - People are different, some will love an character that others hate.. People are not objective, we're filled with opinions and expectations and they will reflect themselves upon anything we see, hear or generally anything we experience. =) |
