I read on ANN that Bandai is planning to roll out their own online distribution channel today.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-08-16/bandai-channel-to-stream-anime-in-u.s-eurasia-at-start-of-2010

Questions: I was curious what others thought/felt about;

1) Community. When you share a common interest with others often you want to talk to others about it etc. flickr is an example of this: a few million people to talk and share photographs with. Is being able to participate in a community of people that enjoy anime important to you?

2) If having a community of people that you can share with online is important to you, do you think that:

a) There are so many anime sites that it makes it less likely to settle in and make friends and become a part of any particular sites community? Especially considering the sites which have large selections (licensing isn't that important to them) capitalise strictly in distribution.

b) It doesn't matter because you go to places to watch your anime and other places for community (e.g. ANN has an active forum).

Why am asking this:
Even though I'm not that much of a "community person" I like the community at Crunchyroll and have always wished it the best. When I see all these ~other~ sites I wonder if it will lessen the community here b/c people will go other places.

Yes, I think I'd like to share my own idea's and talk with people about anime. But, I am here already for a long time, I have never discussed the anime's I liked in the forums. Only the ones I totally don't like. People in this community are too focused on overrated anime. Exactly why I hate the anime forums here. While the most of the people here only know popular and overrated ones, have I never talked with them about anime's which are old or from 2007- , yet decent ones. Is it me, or this community is slowly dying full with retarded people? Ah well, not my problem, I still have other sites where I am active.

so many anime sites that it makes it less likely to settle in and make friends and become a part of any particular sites community?

No. The most of the other community's out there on the net are also focused on anime's which I hate and despise. I never have seen any forum what is active, and talks about for example Seirei no Moribito. Karas, Kite Liberator.

go to places to watch your anime and other places for community

For watching anime is Torrenting my way. I don't like the idea of licensing and distributions around the Regionblock.
The most of them are not available here. That's why I do it illegal. I have no reason to do it legal, because it's like I am desperate and have to follow the ways the people want. I rather stick with being an ass who's doing and watching anime's he like without censors on TV or the Net. Like, that Charger girl sounds pretty Interesting here, but with that Censoring, and regionblock have I downloaded it. It was totally epic with nudity and boobs.

That was my 2 cents.

1. Is being able to participate in a community of people that enjoy anime important to you?
Not really. Asian dramas maybe. im not much of an anime lover.

2.a.
NO.CRoll is the only anime site i know which is more interactive and more fun. other sites are too stiff and boring. stiffness and boredom is what i hate most within a site.

2.b. thats a good question. ü
good thing CR has an application in facebook. now you can watch anime from CR via facebook.

edit:
facebook is, of course, a real social networking site.

1) Not really, I don't really care.

2a) No, CR is actually fun, the other sites are boring.

2b) I'd hate to admit it, but I do watch anime outside of CR. Why? CR doesn't have a lot of options for me. But if they do have a certain show that I wanted to watch, then I would stay faithful, and watch it here. :/ Even if I have to wait 7 days to watch simulcast episodes.

I find other discussion forums to be quite boring to be honest, leaving the same day I joined.
