[Evony] Ads that disguise themselves out to be Porn Sites
Posted 8/20/09

http://www.lazygamer.co.za/general-news/a-history-of-evony-ads-the-insanity-continues
Well.
Scroll down from top to bottom.

At the last few ads, can you even tell that it's a game anymore?

Stupid thing is, these ads actually work.
It catches your attention doesn't it?

Also, the game ripped off the people in its ads from other sites.
And the game graphics are stolen from Civillization.

Discuss the benefits of disguising your site as a porn site to attract people.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Really? I got tricked D:

To be honest, I joined the game pretty early, before all the ads got dirty.
I decided to log in the other day, and everyone on the chat was asking where the nekkid girl was.

Can't say I wouldn't have clicked on those ads if i didn't already know what was on the other end.

This is about the ads.
Not the game itself.

I also command you to unlock the finger thread.

Wait.
You even deleted my post?

Also, I'd like to ask you why you removed my comments there. I do not think that the comments in the finger thread were considered Spam.

'Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately. While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam, junk fax transmissions, social networking spam, and file sharing network spam.

Spamming remains economically viable because advertisers have no operating costs beyond the management of their mailing lists, and it is difficult to hold senders accountable for their mass mailings. Because the barrier to entry is so low, spammers are numerous, and the volume of unsolicited mail has become very high. The costs, such as lost productivity and fraud, are borne by the public and by Internet service providers, which have been forced to add extra capacity to cope with the deluge. Spamming is widely reviled, and has been the subject of legislation in many jurisdictions.

To: baka. It was spam, going completely off topic, not that it mattered since the thread and posts itself were completely inappropriate. :P
Plus, I didn't want to feed the troll. >:D

I don't really see ads that often anymore since I always have an adblocker turned on ;D

LOL @ the Wiki article;

Evony's 2009 online advertising campaign was criticised for featuring what The Guardian called "a string of increasingly racy images". The images depicted females who, as the ad campaign continued, grew further and further unclothed, until the ad was simply a pair of breasts. A running slogan for the campaign was "Save the queen!", although within the game, there is no queen to save.

One 'Save The Queen' advert featured a woman without a bra or panties lying on the floor with a sword pointed at her breast. Another advertisement used two women with their eyes closed and the motto "Save Your Lover." It said "Play Unnoticeably", despite the fact that Evony does nothing to hide itself from network logs and its URL and cookies will still be present in a web browser's history like any other website.

Evony was also accused of using spam promotion.

Forum addictions also ruin your life.
Keep that in mind, mod.

Wow, you're so charming and smooth that I think even i'm falling for you.

I lol'ed. So it's a game ad? Wow, it looks like dating service from take 7-10. Well you know what they say, "sex sells." It's business. I feel bad for the people who fell for it.
