10 Things You Can Learn from a Shojo Manga
Posted 8/24/09 , edited 8/24/09
I made it up. They don't apply to ALL shojo manga, just most. You can disagree with me on some things also and add your own knowledge of shojo manga! :D

1) There are always two or more guys in love with the girl. ALWAYS.

2) The guy the girl ends up with is the one who had her first kiss.

3) The girl has a rival that likes the guy she likes.

4) The guy that ends up with the girl is hot.

5) Guys are cool, and are great fighters.

6) The guy has to fall in love with the girl before she does.

7) The girl is usually sweet and innocent, and has zero experience in love.

8) The guy is usually the same age or older than the girl.

9) The guy rescues the girl a bunch of times.

10) 2 girls. 2 guys. Love rectangle.

You forgot four more:

The girl is usually klutzy, weak, and dumb. She has no experience in sex or with men what-so-ever, and she is always being saved from trouble in at least every episode. If she dose have powers she's either A too retarded to use them or B dosn't know how.

The men always look highly feminine and skinny. It's almost disgusting.

At least one of them are gay.

The girl is usually between the ages of 13-18.

lol I agree on some of them
here's my own:

1. The girl is always innocent (no experience with love what-so-ever).
2. She is always kind hearted.
3. She falls in love with the guy that either "moves" her emotionally, or treats her coldly, but somehow she can't stray away, because he will always show a bit of his kinder side right when she concludes that he is the worst being on earth.
4. There is usually a prettier girl with a evil side that wants to steal the guy away from the main lead.
5. Guys are never superficial, even though they are either, the richest or the most handsome creature alive. (or both).
6. Girls are always the weaker one hiding behind the protection of a man (though I think this has more to do with asian culture rather than a shoujo manga cliche).
7. The girl's main goal in life is to get a boyfriend and or fall in love; I guess school just isn't a big issue
8. There's usually another guy that comes into the story later in the manga that tries to win the heart of the girl, which leads the main male lead to realize his true feelings for the main girl...zzzzzzz (I can't stress how much this has happened.)
9. The girl usually doesn't end up with her childhood friend, unless that is the story's main plot.
10. First kisses are never weird and akward, but romantic and magical. (let's face it, that is not reality, unless you are one of the few lucky ones) *this does not include the case where some bastard steals the girl's first kiss but hey, they usually end up with that bastard, whom turns out to be not such a bad guy afterall

[edit] these are 10 things I learned from cliche shoujo mangas. There are unique shoujo's out there that doesn't submit to these 10 things above It is refreshing to read something different sometimes

The girl/ protagonist of most stories are stupid, and yeah.

The guy has to be hot.... I dunno why but it has to be

The line "I will forever love you" "I will forever protect you, anata no tame ni" or something like that always appears.... X3

Also, if the story has a love triangle, it's always a battle between Mr. Badass and Mr. Bishies X3

Raining scenes is very popular

IT IS REQUIRED THAT THEY ARE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.... lol

ok that was 6.... post again later once I think of the others

LOL..... At least one of them's gay.... haha that is true

Haha... that's my 7th now.... :>

Atleast one of the hot guys has blonde hair

The most annoying/naive/ incompetent girls are usually wearing pigtails

And I dunno, the girls manage to wear Maid Outifits... Especially, in School Festivals.... or something like that :>

The girl is innocent, clumsy, dumb, little experience, weak,
but always knows what to say.

Somehow they`re always in a beautiful scene.
Whether its raining, flowery, or anything.

When they accidently touch each others hands, they blush intensely, or lower their heads.

All of them are highschoolers.

You have to see at least one guy from the manga without a shirt on.

Someone always gets jealous.

" Guys aren`t worth your tears. But the one who is, won`t make you cry. "

there are similar events that absolutely must happen in the story:

- sports festival
- new year festival
- going to a field trip where they end up in hot springs
- valentine's day

Well, what I meant when I typed that list is that "most" shoujos are like that; you know, the really cliche ones.
Btw, is shakugan no shana a shoujo?
I read the synopsis, and frankly I am not sure ^^;;

blah blah blah

I dunno if this is serious or just meant to poke fun. Though the typical shoujo that people encounter have some of these qualities, this is an ignorant oversimplication of her idea of shoujo. I know you said it doesn't apply to all, but this is just sad. None of the shoujo I read fall under this. I just see it as an insult and a disgrace.
