there are similar events that absolutely must happen in the story:

- sports festival
- new year festival
- going to a field trip where they end up in hot springs
- valentine's day

That's just in school life shoujo mangas :/

Another thing, when the guy gets a cold, the girl will go to his house/apartment to take care of him and usually they dont know how to cook, but even though, they cook something disgunting and the guy would eat it saying it's not bad at all

most of the time lead character had his/her memory wiped out or lost

childhood friends moves out of town but still ends up with each other

the rest its the same as you all mentioned i am getting tired of this kind of countless never ending cycle found in different series >.<

lol fun stuff and true of some.

I also find it strange that all the guys are bishies, well the main guys, there usually is a few minor characters that are either just tag alongs or interested in our "heroine" so to speak in an obsessed much kind of a way. so i guess i would add some sort of stalkerish / jealous character in there.

~~

Evyss: great catch on that cold thing. so true, i dont know about you guys, but i never went over to take care of a sick friend. eat some chicken noodle soup, down a couple of pills, and pass out on the bed with bottle of water, a tissue box, and a trash bin next to you. thats about as far as i go. they got family and stuff.

which is actually another point: not too much action in part of the parents, its like they are always at work or something, just leaving the kids to their own devices.

God, there's always a freaking childhood friend. Don't even get me started on the stoic and possessive, but secretly kind-hearted main love interest. Because of course the girl has a damn HAREM.

Another thing to add...
At LEAST one of the main characters lost one or both of their parents

~A majority of series include:
a) someone being hospitalized / losing their memory
b) a kiss in the rain
c) NUMEROUS 'accidental' kisses
d) one little misunderstanding that becomes the entire cause of conflicts
e) a combination of two or more of the above

~Guys involved in the little love drama ALWAYS have completely contrasting personalities. Common personalities often include:
`The hyper and outgoing one
`The cool and distant one
`The kind and welcoming one
`The brainy one
`The mature one

~Common shoujo storylines focus on: school life, music, acting, love (but that one's a given), differences in social status
~If the girl isn't super feminine, she's the exact opposite
~Both people in the couple are ALWAYS able to blush so easily (seriously, I have yet to see someone ACTUALLY blush like that in real life)
~Guy character designs are always so distinct from each other, but for some reason they all end up being bishonen
~The main character is often air-headed and, conveniently, there is ALWAYS some guy who looks after her that way.
~There are always those 'coincidental' moments when the couple is ALL alone in a public place...

also, has anyone noticed that in many cases, the girl ends up with the guy with dark hair? (there's always one dark-haired one and one white/light-haired one)
