This website is not specialised for litterature or politics or any "more serious" matters and touch a large public, from 13 to 73 years old...

I agree completely. I keep telling shinji over and over to split the general section and make an extended discussion section...it keeps getting ignored and currently he is busy ._. sigh

But, no. Thats not what we get. What do we get?
An article that politely asks members to make the forums better.
Hah

I appreciate the effort, but my money is on this doing little good.
People should be smitten like there is no tomorrow.

I get the concept of being direct, but I don't want to alienate users that don't know how to post correctly. I want to show the correct way to do things so everyone can enjoy the forums. I know that sounds kind of "fluffy bunny happy with rainbows" but it's true. I remember being 14, and never posting on forums because I didn't want to do something wrong and have all the regulars verbally kick my ass. What's awful is that it wasn't an irrational idea, that's probably what would have happened, and is what happens here.

The title was partly strategic too. Many users are always saying they wish they could help the site more, so what do I offer them? Something they can do that's free, and really is helpful.

man ur right. Im 17 and i have never spoken in a forum cuz i was scared that they would call me noob or they would kick me cuz i aint a regular but reading this has helped me a lot and now i know what to do when im in a forum. Remember that not all people have talked in forums and this is a great help for all that dont have the courage of speaking cuz they dont know any forum rules. Yeah they might be scared cuz they guy quoted avove could tell them to F*** off cuz he didnt know what he was doing could actually tell em that but the point is that this affects more than it looks. You think this is a waste of time but if out of 100 there is 1 person with potential who want to join the discussion forums then we could be earning 10 people or more and that is rl good. Thanx so much. You have encouraged me to actually use this forum and instructed me of basics so i can join any forum without fear. And to all of the "experts" out there. Take some time teaching a couple of others eventually your efforts will pay out with not only one but a great deal of number of forums getting full of ppl and having a good time. In forums the more the merrier cuz everyone has different points of view and therefore we get to discuss matters in a more profound way. Hope to see u guys around, and many than again to the doomaid and to itzy bitzy spider... or happy go lucky... i cant remember his name XD... the one who made the rules. Well let the next year be better than this one and let the noobs behave in forums! Cheers to that! :D

this should stop those spammers.

sorry for double posting again but LOFL look at this guy!! Apparently he agrees but he doesnt discuss about anything. Isnt this what was said NOT to be done? did you actually read the "rules". Cuz it looks like u didnt! If u did chek em twice and not just u, i found it to be stupid just stopped reading the whole thing and people just posting: i agree. WTF??!! isnt what these guys trying to say is to not say anything if it aint about discussion. That to me is spam cuz if you are not discussing u are spamming. Im sorry to be so direct but i was getting pissed to see people ignoring the threads main point IN the thread itself. If youre just going to say thank god say it with a valuable argument cuz if u dont ur just wasting space or as u wrote yourself... spamming!!
PS i just stopped posting this and a guy above me writes nothing... OMFG...
READ!!! Dont spam... damn... this is useless...

cool. ^^ now i know how to post... >.> although i'm guilty of double-posting sometimes in the forum games thread. ^^;;; i know, i'm evil.

about reporting to mods... what made the prank thread worthy of reporting? because it was dumb? i'm curious because i don't want to go overboard on reporting things, as i'll probably find a lot of things dumb. ~.~

and omg i must be slow... i didn't even realize you could search forums until now. ;__; i mean, i had the thought in the back of my head. but i never really checked or utilized the feature.

thank you doomaid!!! you're helping out a slow one here... *points to self*

This makes a lot of sense and I understand the need to clear up space and not have a repeat of one topic. I also applaud your effort in trying to make cr forums better. I've always stayed away from forums (except those on the front page) because its seems so messy and there's lots of forums about the same thing. I've always wondered if this didn't bug you guys. But the thing that irks me is that common sense would tell people to check and see if a topic is already being discussed (and some topics are so obvious that it would be out there), but i guess some of them are lazy. If you're new (maybe you guys should put up a list of things that will cause intense dislike so don't do it) to cr, its bit understandable, but for people whose been here for a while its annoying. Thank you for the guide.

I completely agree subforums are really needed to improve the forums discussions and threads. Not only are forums not taken "seriously" to be honest I don't take them too seriously. After all, CR is an entertainment website. It is not a Politics, Literature, Philosophy and Religion website. That is not to say intelligent discussions are not my favorite but like user Hylia mentioned on her post we must also consider the age groups. Anyhow, with subforums people that want to discuss topics that are of interest to them can do so. For example, a user that wants a serious conversation can click on the subforum "Deep Philosophical discussions" while the user that goes to forums for entertainment and not to cultivate his knowledge can go to e.g. "Most silly, random and plain dumb discussions" and so on. This I think will also help to prevent flame wars. Because a user that goes to the subforum "silly discussions" doesn't really have the right to complain or flame others due to their lack of "common sense" or "intelligence" or "insight" in their post.
Like it is often said a silly answer to a silly question.

Lets also not forget that it is variety in knowledge, opinions and thus posts what generates the discussions in the first place if we all thought alike there will be no need to discuss anything.

About the guide>The guide is in fact just common sense but we all know that is not common. Generally, I think the people who take the time to read the CR rules are the ones that are already writing good forum posts and following the rules. Anyways, the guide is still very helpful and thanks for taking the time to write it , I just hope more CR members care to read it.

I think it's about time people learned how to use forums correctly since recently it's all double posting, irrelevant posting or just plain old stupidity posting. I like this guide since it cracked me up because it's funny how people don't recognize the options that they have. Nothing like a forum that describes how to improve forums. lol nice sarcastic tone on the "edit" part.

I also agree when Trinity_666 said, "Lets also not forget that it is variety in knowledge, opinions and thus posts what generates the discussions in the first place if we all thought alike there will be no need to discuss anything." Sometimes the problem is the way people act as if they're the smartest people on cr (or perhaps the world. God forbid =T) and act like they're superior. Another problem is that some people aren't even responding to the forums correctly. They'll go completely off the topic and mention something else. With the thousands of cr users, I would think it'd be impossible or completely time consuming to make forums better. I know I sound discriminative when I say this but I believe there should be an age limit on certain things (even though it doesn't sound right and deprives people of the rights that they deserve). That might solve some of the problems but then there are the spammers who forum hop, just posting up stuff like "hey I'm new to cr. Add me on Yahoo Messenger". I know you guys are trying hard but there's so many loopholes. But thanks again for this hilarious forum guide. Nothing like sarcasm.

I think this forum guide should be on the main page (unless it's already there). Well, there's my 2 cents.

I certainly go negative against one-liner posts/double posts that means nothing whatsoever to the thread subject. It completely lowers the person's intelligence in my own humble opinion.

Posters should put more intelligence in their posts, and their posts should be based on the Thread Subject. And if you can't put a lot thoughts in your posts, it will be okay as long as your reply is concrete. If members keeps on spamming the forum, it dumbs down the forum by a hand full of IQ at a time.

You should start with using proper grammar/type full words and use capital letters wisely. No offense but I didn't fully read your post because it's full of acronyms.

A great forum guide! not only here in CR Forum, but to other forum sites also.
This is a forum section, not Chat! ?? Why not make a Chat Box?

real entertaining guide.

Unfortunately, most of the people that make those retarded threads and spam don't know how to read. They just know how to type.
