My Grandma's SHORTBREAD COOKIE Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup butter

Directions:
Rub the butter into the sugar. Sift the remaining dry ingredients together, then add to the butter/sugar mix. Keep adding flour until it "cracks" apart at the edges when u roll it out. Cut into required shapes shapes and bake 10-12 minutes 325 degrees.

Then EAT COOKIES!!

Hint:
These are also nice to decorate with a chocolate goody at Christmas b4 u bake 'em, too!

The next two are other different types of Shortbread from other countries. They came from my Grans' friends! :)

SWEDISH SHORTBREAD

Ingredients:
1 pound butter
1/2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
six cups flour
1, 1/2 cups ground almonds
icing sugar

Instructions:
Cream together well & let stand a while. Add flour & ground almonds. Work well, then pat out and roll flat, cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Bake in 325 ~ 350F degree oven for about 15 ~ 20 minutes, or until golden. Roll into icing sugar while still warm.

LILLIAN'S SHORTBREAD


Ingredients:
I cup sft butter
1, 3/4 cups flour
1/2 cup icing sugar

Instructions:
Beat with an electric beater for 10 minutes. Drop by small teaspoon onto cookie sheet. Bake 1/2 hour at 250 degrees F.

BUTTER BUDS

Cream together:

1 cup butter
1cup brown sugar

Beat in:
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together:
2, 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
and blend this into butter mix

Roll into balls about the size of a large coin and press flat with a floured fork. A walnut piece or glazed cherry can be added on top if desired. Bake at 350 F for 10~12 minutes or until golden.

Yeah, it's a good one, these have all been rceipes of my Grandma! The next one is too.....

Actually, this one was from one of her best friends......

DATE COOKIES

Filling:
1/2 pound of dates
1/2 cup of sugar mixed with
2 tablespoons flour

Almost cover the dates & sugar mix with water & cook on low heat until thick, stirring while cooking, then let cool.

Batter:
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1, 1/2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour

Mix ingredients as listed. When well blended, by teaspoonful-full onto a greased cookie sheet. Make a hole in the center of each with your thumb.Fill the hole with date mix & add a dab of batter on top.
Bake st 350F for 20~25 minutes.
