Hijacked by Kippu. I already made a thread about Bruno the movie, but I think this thread can stay.
If you want to talk about whether you've seen the movie or not, what your favourite scene is, and blah blah blah. Then use the thread below:

Brüno--Sacha Boran Cohen
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-531030

This thread will be about the controversies of the movie, not whether you've seen it or not.
Thank you, and have a good day.

I'm sure a lot of us have seen this movie yeah?
I thought it was hilarious and afterwards my friend was telling me how her gay friend had been to see it like 13 times.
Apparently not everyone thinks it's great... aside from being just plain offensive it's now being called homophobic.

Dressed up as irony, this caricature of ‘gayness’ is a boost for the bigots, writes Colin Wilson
The first thing that strikes you is that this is a grotesquely homophobic film, a compendium of everything that a particularly bigoted 12 year old boy might think he knows about gay people.

But Bruno – and Brüno – is gay.

Really gay.

Unbelievably gay.

That’s exactly the point. Brüno is the most extreme gay stereotype imaginable: he talks with a lisp, wears short-shorts, and is obsessed with sex and fashion.

And the articles quoted above:

Want more? Google it.

Though I find myself wondering why people can't let loose and laugh for once?
IMO it's a chance to laugh at how ridiculous the stereotype is - there's no one quite like this fictional character. That's why it's a COMEDY.

I'd like you to share your thoughts on this and well the movie in general too.

People are just too sensitive. When movies make fun of my race I laugh because I know they're doing it for the humor. I've never seen Bruno, but I herd that it got some bad reviews. I don't see what the problem is.

I think people calling it homophobic are taking it too far. Really, people just need to stop being so uptight and critical and enjoy the movie for it's real purpose: to laugh.

Personally, I thought Bruno was more retarded than anything, but I wouldn't criticize the movie because there's an audience out there for it.

When it first came out, homosexuals were afraid that bruno was going to make them look bad. That they have it bad as it is already, how they didn't need a movie about a guy making fun of homosexuals, and to trample them in the ground even more.
But when I went to see the movie, I think all it did was make the homophobics in the movie look bad. Honestly, it blew my mind watching that movie. Especially the wrestling scene when there were some about to cry.

Not homophobic.
Making fun of the stereo types.
Ofc, I didn't see the movie in the theater, since it was gay.
Downloaded at home.
The clips of the dick swirling was pretty funny.
Wouldn't want to be caught laughing at that in public.

I feel dirty.

It got A LOT of bad reviews, mainly because most thought it was more obscene than funny.
Though those reviews were the reason I saw it... I'm a bit old for pg-13 Disney channel humour. aha

It's not homophobic, it just exaggerates things, same as Borat.

It was great and hilarious, but it mostly doesn't have any significant social commentary like Borat did. The point of both movies was to show people's prejudices and the problems with society, but Bruno really failed at that. Some parts were interesting, like the parents willing to risk their babies lives or the guy comparing gays to terrorists, but the rest was just pointless. Very funny, but it didn't have any meaning, and ignorant people probably would develop more prejudice or hatred towards gays after seeing it.

Sasha Boren Cohen is supposed to be the only one acting, and everyone else thinks it's real.

Haven't seen it, not really tempted.

There will always be people, who take a film that lacks seriousness all together, and goes all "This is not true! > : ("

It's just show how little amused certain people are, that they can let a silly film slide. Oh no, it was about a minority, or a nation (Read: Borat) - we must make sure people understand the truth about this vile film!!

Then again, people are stupid. Some think Obama is to blame for the Swine Flu, go figure.

What?
So you're telling me that Obama isn't responsible for the swine flu?
I thought it was part of his "Illegal Alien Plan".
