Well, i went to japan about a month ago.

OMG Anime was a big part of japan. There were many advertsment and shops with anime. one shop i rember is called "WonderGoo" and it had a s**t lode of anime and Final fantasy stuff. OMG. I bought like 50 bleach dvds and various ff titles.

BUT

Their manga section was as big as the NY libary!!! ALL the mangas you could ever think of!!!

Lets weigh the options. Learn japanese, go to japan, buy japanese dvds ... or download fansubs. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. For now, you all should just stick with fansubs.

well the dvds were probably all pirated, i didnt mean to get your hopes up. Anyways, japan can be romanticized by us anime watchers in the west, but make no mistake, integration into that culture can be much harder than you think. Although i do like the scenery of japan, it really is a beautiful country + theres a pretty low crime rate.

cant really say "cutlure" since anime hasnt gone for such a long time.... but still its something a lot of people like. (kids, adutls, and sometimes even elderly)

Before i moved, i do remember the manga sections is really large, BUT i think doujinshi would be even bigger.
Anime selection would be large to.. When i was in Shibuya, they had a cheap selling shop that i could have gotten Gundam series box set for around 30 bucks (which is really cheap to me at least)
----- I just think it was better to just use a couple bucks rather than wasting my precious internet time downloading something that would take weeks)
