Well basically I left it open to be interpreted how ever you wish, leaving people free to explore more than one avenue with the thread.
The underlining ideal or focus of the thread is my lack of understanding on how people can think you have your opinion, I have my opinion is a valid point. This simple statement upsets and baffles me to no end.

Isn't it so? I can see that when it comes to trivial matters and commonsense, for someone to just end the discussion with that statement is really not being constructive about it at all. Therefore when it comes to serious discussion with possibly multiple viewpoints, for someone to say "well yo have your opinion and I have mine," while they aren't really adding much to the discussion from a different angle, at the same time they're also being rather dismissive to the whole topic.

I mean to me, by arguing that the sky isn't always blue to those with a different sensory perception that's other than normal humans is nothing short of brilliant.

Well if that's the case, then I'm going to use Quine's final statement on his paper "On What There Is" (found here if you click on 'view item' http://www.jstor.org/pss/20123117 You'll need to be in a university wifi that has subscribed to the site to see the whole paper) and say that the problem with most debates is perhaps on the semantics on our words and our experiences. Most of the time, especially here on CR, I feel as if I'm not playing the same ball game as the other person. I'll lay out my points with my logical reasoning along the way and the person who responds will do so in a way that didn't seem to consider some or all of my logical reasoning.

Of course it's hard for you to see what's in my head and vice versa (Quine himself came up with some questionable ways to level the playing field in metaphysics), but it's important that we use hard sources (like websites) to back up our answers along with our logical reasonings. I know CR isn't meant to be a place for scholarly debates but at least showing where we got our impressions or conclusions is the least we can do here. Am I right?

That I do agree with you on this. I think it would be are responsibility to demonstrate are self in some form of structure / follow a code, wen one steps into a debate or a topic.

This is a well used comment in this forum.

Let us look closer at this Ideal. First what this statement is insinuating that all opinions are equal.
Now if you think about it its far from the truth. Opinions are not equal so using this comment to end the debate is "bullshit. ( do to lack of a better word)"
Opinions are not equals!

That is like saying that the sky is blue because the sky is a Giant Ice dome like roof covering the earth. This opinion holds little to no Value because it is base on no evidence just plain uneducated ignorance.
What makes people think you have your opinion and I have my opinion is a good Point?
Opinions are not equals, if a opinion is base on evidence and well known facts, than that opinion should be respected more than an opinion base on "Blind Faith" Sorry the word fits..

It is those people in this forum non-the-less who use that statement to end any debate, allows them to save face.
But should people be allowed to use such a remark wen in any forum not just the ED.
I find it really hard to respect someone who would say the earth is flat, then wen you explain to them how that is not so, they use the you have your opinion I have my opinion comment as if that makes them just as right as you are. As if opinions are all equals.

Now what is your Opinion on Opinions.
And sorry about it coming out kinda like a rant.
This opinion thing just happens way to much in my opinion.

i see what your saying, but opinions should only be allowed in philosophical debates anyway. All opinions are equal in a philosophical debate. You may call it blind faith, but if evidence could be presented in a philosophical debate, you wouldnt be able to sense it with your senses anyway.

in any scientific or scientific-like debate, opinions dont exists, it's either hypothesis, thoeries (back by evidence), or FACT. And the guy with the most evidence wins the debate.and no opinion holds any wieght in a scientific debate.

and thats my FACT for today. My evidence can be found in any dictionary, look up the meaning of actual science and philosophy.

one is backed by evidence, one is back by opinions. peace over war

Everything is an opinion. All information comes from other people. The diffrence between a fact and an opinion is the number of people that accept it.

So to you gravity is an Opinion?
Is it not a observable fact. (facts are facts even if there not accepted by the majority of people.)
Facts are observable and we know it to be true. Such as we circle the sun, that is a fact. The explanation for why we circle the sun do to gravity based of from mountains of research with no evidence to show it was otherwise is known as Science theory. Opinions would be if you agree with it or not regardless weather it is a fact or not.

...Is it all thought up by man yes or no? Yes. Therefore, all we know could be wrong. CR's theme color could be pink, had the word be ment to represent the color. You see what I mean? It is all an opinion. A human being can never give an absolute truth. Words, languages and such were developed for our understandment. Had we a different structure to the English language we would beleive things to be other things. And you know what the funny thing is? Everything I just wrote is an opinion too. The only truth I can think of is that whatever lives, dies.

Fact or opinion the earth travels in a elliptical pattern around the sun? Its stating a fact, now if I was to say Earth travels around the sun do to the gravity. That is still a fact is it not... Now if I was to say I believe red is the best color of them all, not is that not a opinion.
Now Opinions can be based of from facts, such as Snow flakes have a structure and are very complex yet do not need a creator, that is evidence that things do not need creators to exist. that is a opinion yet based off from a observable fact. "Snowflakes do not need a creator to form" is the fact, and "So creators are not need creators to have gotten there start", is the opinion that developed from that observable fact.

Is that your opinion, or is it a fact? Wait. You're not making any sense.

"You have you opinion and I have mine." [translation : " I've made up my mind, so leave me alone ! " ] that may or may not be an opinion of mine....... so you don't necessarily have to leave me alone.

Don't post what you can't defend. I'd say.
