Is Anime/Manga Related to your Childhood?
Posted 9/4/09 , edited 9/4/09
To be honest I had a childhood filled with anime and some classic Disney movies. I did also read jump comics

Well, I did live in JP when I was little but I have European parents that is why I also watched Disney movies.

Guess it depends on the culture?

How about you? (:

Kinda. I only really saw the truly main-stream stuff, like Dragonball Z and whatever, but I watched alot of it. What I call my first REAL run-in with anime wasn't until I was like 5, and is kind of a funny story. My grandpa was watching Japanimation for whatever reason and I walked in on it. (For anyone who doesn't know, Japanimation was this thing Sci-Fi channel did awhile back where they played anime for a few hours instead of their normal line-up on weekends. Kind of like anime night on Adult Swim, though they usually played movies, or shows that weren't main stream.) Anyway, I'm looking at this thing which was a movie called Princess Mononoke, which I recomend highly if you don't mind some violence and blood. I asked him what it was, and he said "it's like a cartoon for adults, so I don't know if you'd like it". I thought to myself, go in the next room and watch Pokemon or watch this crazy movie about battle and wolf spirits and stuff? I circled option B I think another movie played too, "Monkey Mumble" or something if anyone's heard of it. Guess I wrote alot again

Strangely enough, my pragmatic nature probably contributed by watching real robot anime (e.g. Gundam, Robotech, Bubblegum Crisis 2040, etc.). Before that, I was an idealistic brat that disregard authority.
