I guess this topic has already been discussed but I wanted to talk about fur being the fashion craze all over the world. Fur in the fashion industry has always been a hot favorite. Even though many people discard fur accessories because of the cruelty towards animals associated with the making of such articles, the fashion world seems least bothered. So you think celebrities donning mink or karakul lamb fur look sizzling hot? I hope not. We are all animal lovers here, so we think of animal welfare but what about the millions of people who don’t understand? How would they feel if their skin was peeled away from them? For, shearing fur from an animal is always painful for it and most often, fatal.
Today, fur trim is the rage in the fashion industry. Fur-trimmed items currently are a half billion-dollar industry. Consumers think that fur trim is less harmful to the animal than using a whole lot of fur to make full fur-covered garments, but that little bit of fur is just as perilous to the animal as when using all its fur. Fur trim isn’t made from leftover bits of fur. An animal dies for each fashion accessory that consumers love to flaunt. The number of animals killed for fur trim is expected to overtake the number of animals killed for full-fur garments.
Here’s the heartbreaking news. More than 30 million animals worldwide are raised in cages and killed each year for their fur. Four million wild animals are killed in the United States each year by 160,000 part-time trappers who supply pelts to the fashion industry. Trapped animals undergo terrible pain before they die or are clubbed to death by the trapper. Since there are no laws in the US regulating the handling or killing of cage-raised, fur-bearing animals, these creatures are killed cost-effectively, not necessarily humanely. Commonly applied methods of killing are asphyxiation with automobile exhaust, neck breaking, or electrocution. Imagine the plight of the animal! Animals that usually become the victims of cruel fashion are foxes, chinchillas, raccoons, coyotes, finracoons, minks, lambs and rabbits. And in Asia, even dogs and cats are killed for fur blitz.

A mink being gassed.

A poor animal being electrocuted. Animals have clamps applied to their mouths and rods inserted into their anuses and are electrocuted.

But how do celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Lopez take this piece of news? With complete indifference. The hot stars don’t give a damn how many lives they kill for every fur item they buy, they only care about smoldering on the red carpet. Lohan has been attacked by PETA activists many a time for wearing fur, but she doesn’t care. N neither does Lopez who employed her husband to protect her in public instead of giving up fur once n for all. Call this a civilized world!
Post ur opinions here about what you think of this inhumane trade. Views shared are views that spread.
