I don't think this is a stupid topic. I actually agree very much with this topic.

I think it's good that someone points it out.
My family is from the south part of asia and hardly anyone knows my ethinicity.
That really gets on my nerve when they think that you're Jap. or Chinese.
It's annoying and sad at the same time that people don't know you exist when you actually made history in the American society.
Most people are shock when I tell them my ethnicity.
They go "What's that?", they don't even know about us through history. It wasn't taught, which really pisses me off.

I hate being called just 'Asian'. I'm Indian! Not a freaking continent. If you were to come to Europe, East Asians would be the 'forgotten' ones. East Asia and South Asia are completely different. They just happen to be on the same giant piece of land.

It's no big deal. It's just a niggling problem. On my Job Application, when I was filling in the ethnicity section. I scribbled out the part that just said 'Asian' and wrote "INDIAN!"

alot of souths asians look up 2 east asians and south east asians and r inspired by them

I have to take exception to this. The vast majority of South Asians do not look up to the other Asia country's for inspiration. Their just like any other country to us. This may be the case for you but don't make all of us other South Asians look so pathetic.

Um, so what if they are forgotten?

Tons of races are forgotten, same with countries, same with everything.

Doesn't mean it matters really.

i'm Nepali and i am just asian. We follow our own cultures whether its popular or not at other countries..
You can't never differentiate us.
we (mostly those under 30/and all the Gurkhas) look like Koreans/ Japanese/ chinese/and some filipino
and some people like politicians/Government/teachers look like sri lankans/indians
p.s i like Japanese though, because they always help us. we respect them.

i'm an Indian. recently i started watching korean and chinese movies. but whenever i talk to my friends abt these chinese countries or movies they gives me a freaking look. it may be because they just look up to Americas and Europe nations and other cricket playing nations like Australia, Pak, new zealand, south africa, kenya etc....

Most of the indians does not know where exactly japan and korea are on world map. but even a school going kid tell abt all US and Europe countries and south america countries.

crunchyroll is for mostly east asians. There are some other very big online communities for south asians.
here are some of the big community sites among South Asians

http://www.masalatalk.com/masalaboard/forumdisplay.php?f=3
http://orkut.com

India itself has many languages like hindi, telugu, tamil, kannada, malayalam, marathi.
There atleast 6 to 7 languages with populations exceeding 50million. so we have our own community sites like east asians have in combine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers

You may not here abt south asians in chinese related community sites bcz they are mostly non english sites.

http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=IN&ts_mode=country&lang=none

check these top chinse sites
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=CN&ts_mode=country&lang=none
60% of them are non english websites.

i think this is the reason why south asians are not popular among east asians and vice versa.
